MP Philip Lee joins Lib Dems, leaving Conservatives with no majority

Breaking, so not much text atm: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-49570682

Quote:

Conservative MP Philip Lee has defected to the Liberal Democrats ahead of a showdown between Boris Johnson and Tory rebels over Brexit.

Mr Lee, the MP for Bracknell, took his seat on the opposition benches as the PM addressed the Commons.

His defection means that Boris Johnson no longer has a working majority in the Commons.

He said the government was "pursuing a damaging Brexit in unprincipled ways", putting lives and livelihoods at risk.

Speaking in the Commons, Mr Johnson told MPs he wanted a negotiated exit from the EU and insisted there had been progress in the talks.

It will just cause an election that will see the Tories win by a landslide

The EU have said today that BJ hasn't proposed anything new, and there was nothing to make progress on anyway.

Not surprising and probably more to come.

Well in the OP it says that Boris says, we have made progress. So who to believe?

Would you give your hand away in a negotiation?

A guy who was sacked twice for lying, and has been proven a liar again today in court vs an entity with nothing to gain either way. Hmmm, it's a tough one, can you give me a minute?

Nothing to gain but our money or our military muscle.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I wonder what the saying would be for a fourth time because choosing to believe Boris when he's a proven liar multiple times over is just foolishness.

I really hate to break this to you, but we're not an empire anymore, and we don't live in the 18th century. We're just a normal country; we can't just call on huge numbers of Indians to fight and die for us whilst we still have the cheek to call them immigrants.

Acceptance of where we are in the grand scheme of things will make things a lot easier.

Well, if Brexit IS going to destroy the country, at least it's taken the Conservative party with it.
