Scarborough

Anyone watch this yet? I'm not sure what to think of it, I want to love it, because it's got a lot of the same ingredients that Benidorm had, but I dunno. It could have just been down to it being the first episode I guess, that being said, Benidorm's first episode/series was arguably the best series. I guess it doesn't help it being set in the UK, watching Benidorm felt more like an escape from reality, where as Scarborough is just... Scarborough, lol.

LaLaLand 07-09-2019 12:18 AM

I enjoyed it but it wasn't like "wow can't wait for next week"

It was basically a slightly more depressing UK version of Benidorm, they even had karaoke in the pub starting "the second act" like they always did in Benidorm!

I think it's a grower, great cast like (especially Stephanie Cole!)

Seems the Benidorm writer has just re-used that formula and set it in Scarborough.

Has potential but needs a more imaginative writer. Benidorm itself was only decent for three series, he's out of ideas.

Really? I find Benidorm to be "Blackpool abroad" and not very exotic. :hehe:

It has a lot of potential, I think it main problem is it is starting off in Benidorm's shadow, by the end of Benidor, they had so many years of jokes and stories they could call back to, where as this is starting from nothing, they've gotta introduce us to all the characters first.

I love that Jake Canuso (aka Matteo) is back in this, when he showed up, my face lit up

Yeah, but you had the sun and the warm weather, it made you think of being abroad, where as Scarborough just reminds me of staying at Blue Dolphin  (which I loved as a kid, but wouldn't now lol). Oh, also they're not actually on holiday in this too xD

I’m not convinced Derren Litten can write a sitcom, Benidorm went down hill fast once Pemberton left

Ammi 07-09-2019 03:51 AM

...oh I caught a little of this last night...I think the characters have great potential so I’m hoping that it’s going to develop well...

Strictly Jake 07-09-2019 05:42 AM

Gonna watch just because Scarborough is somewhere I annually go on holiday too so it's always nice to recognise places on telly but I'm not excited to watch it

I love blue dolphin!! Stay there every year, mind you I have kids but I enjoy it :joker:

Ammi 07-09-2019 05:46 AM

...I meant to say also that the cast is quite spectacular...Claire Sweeney alone would be enough for me to make it something to try.....

Lewismacfarlane 07-09-2019 08:12 AM

We've recorded it

It went downhill long before Pemberton left.

So... It's post-Brexit Benidorm?

MTVN 07-09-2019 11:19 AM

Saw it and it was pleasant easy viewing but it wasn't very funny and most of the jokes were very predictable

Hope it gets better next week

I went there so much when I was young  I love the Filey/Scarborough/Whitby area, so many memories there

Scarlett. 20-09-2019 11:39 PM

Now that it's a few ep in, it feels like its starting to find its feet

LaLaLand 20-09-2019 11:57 PM

It's getting MUCH better, more laughs too.

LaLaLand 21-09-2019 12:06 AM

"I went to one of them parties where you all put your car keys in a bowl once. Ended up spending the night in a caravan with an undertaker called Eli. Best night's sleep I've ever had" :joker:

Scarlett. 21-09-2019 10:56 AM

Yeah, I'm starting to enjoy it as much as Benidorm, I'm kinda glad its just 30 minutes long too, Benidorm got dragged out when they switched to the hour long ones (though I still enjoyed it)
