Oh my god king of maths

should mention I read my working out for question 8 wrong (as you can see lmao) but the idea is the same
I quickly put things into brackets using my Calculator but you can find values of 'x' with the quadratic value/putting it into brackets yourself (finding all the factors of the number with no x co-efficient which add to the x-coefficient (i.e. x^2 + 4x -12. You got the factors of -12 to be -3 and 4, 3 and -4, 12 and -1, 6 and -2, and 2 and -6. 6 and -2 both multiply to get -12 and 4 is the sum of 6 - 2. You can sometimes take factors out of the quadratic, i.e. you could take a value of 2 out of 2x^2 + 4x - 8, giving 2(x^2 + 2x - 4, which makes it easier) for 10, 11, and 13, it's pretty much just more algebra and understanding what the question asks for. If you dont know a value just give it a symbol (like 'x') and put everything else relative to the side (for example, since 'x' is the shortest side, the side which is 3cm longer than the shortest side can be represented as (x + 3)cm because it's essentially saying 'shortest side + 3cm') the pool one boggled my head for a minute but my only explanation is that you can figure out an exact value for the pool itself, and you know the value of the white part/the decking. So you wanna do the area of the full circle (shaded and white part) and subtract the area of the pool to get the white part, if that makes sense? you can assume the radius of the whole circle by using the radius of the swimming pool + the width of the decking. I used x to represent the decking for ease/so Im not writing out "width of decking" in all my (messy) working out |

i feel like i mansplained a tad there but i wasnt sure which part you got confused by and whenever i try to be concise i make less sense than I when I try and write a lot in detail lmao
|
btw if im wrong dont kill me i've done not maths since my a levels
|
It’s fine it makes sense thanks for the help king
