The BBC is overhauling how the UK act for the Eurovision song contest is selected, scrapping the public vote in favour of teaming up with a record label to choose the singer and the song.

A step in the right direction but I fear it'll be an incredibly safe label decision and we'll still end up sending someone blander than Mollie King.

the only one of those I could've seen performing well (ie "mid table at least") was Olivia tbh... Asanda sounded awful live, couldn't make out a word she was singing. Kerrie-Anne was hard to call, but should've won over Michael. Bianca was pretty bad.

The BBC love him and had him hosting their last 3 Eurovision programmes and he has said he wants to represent the UK so I would say its highly likely

Plus he has a big fan base within Europe which will appeal to the BBC

I mean, we’re known for not really taking Eurovision seriously as it is, do we really need or want to be the desperate country that pays a winner to represent us? I don’t think he’d risk the humiliating defeat

Sweden would never let him live it down if he flopped either lmao

We just need a decent song with a decent singer/performer and let them run with it, none of the ‘everyone love everyone! :)’ crap we’ve relied on for the past few years

It is mildly exciting news and it is a good step in the right direction but I’m not holding my breath bc I just know they’ll be like ‘here’s KEZZA KATONA!!!’

They need to go international again we last won with a foreigner so it's worth another try

It's a power move. BMG are an upcoming label and they will want some thing credible at least. I'm optimistic but surely likely to be let down when it's another stage school bitch with a twee song who isn't head strong enough to say she wants creative input x

So it turns out they produced Heroes for Mans so now I'm even more certain he will do it

hun you don’t need to pull out the google description, comparing katrina to mans is a reach, she lived in the UK for a good few years before eurovison and for us to grab a previous popular winner from another country entirely as our act would be bizarre and embarrassing..

I mean Mans has lived in the UK for a long while and has a british wife

all what is needed is some fresh talent, with a different that stands out and not our usual big ballad with a pop spin on it

i'm pretty sure Sigala and a fresh new singer would do well for UK at eurovision, since his music is very much current, and not a washed up ballad from the 90's like a bigger than us, or a annie lennox tribute act SuRie

pls BBC don't select him, it is a must now to not to continue on the outdated music path, but to walk other paths, modern current uptempo songs can do better for uk bbc

They'll soon find out that the real reason we do sh1t is because all the other countries who vote, are xenophobic tw@s when it comes to us.

I just looked at some of their current artists and didn't realise Ray BLK was signed to them. She won BBC's Sound of 2017 and was the opening act of Nicki's UK tour, she has loads of bops out already, been stanning ha for a while but don't think she's the type who'd do Eurovision tbh. Would be a great choice though if they could convince her!
