Death Stranding

I'm still hyped to the eyeballs for this weird-arse game. Only a couple of weeks left until release and I can finally find out what Daryl's bottle baby is all about :flutter:

Ramsay 23-10-2019 05:28 PM

I'm also extremely hyped for a big old dose of weird kojima-ness

Toy Soldier 07-11-2019 01:27 PM

Midnight tonight :worry:

I'll be downloading overnight and ready to Daryl my way across the Kojimapocalypse tomorrow.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 07-11-2019 02:33 PM

I don’t understand what the majority of reviews are saying about this game they’re like it’s a chore to get through/boring but it’s important

Cracker say what??

Tom4784 07-11-2019 02:35 PM

I had it pre-ordered until recently, I think I'll wait until it's on sale.

Scarlett. 07-11-2019 02:46 PM

Looks kinda boring, its apparently just an Amazon delivery man simulator

Yes it will be pretentious Kojima self-indulgence with cutscenes that are far too long, and some people will find it utterly unplayable and that will be part of what makes it unmissable. I feel like you have to know what you're getting into though.

Ramsay 07-11-2019 05:30 PM

I've a feeling the majority of people will hate it at first but then it will become a cult classic in a few years

Toy Soldier 08-11-2019 03:29 PM

So thus far

1) Yes, delivering stuff :joker:

2) Yes, very long and bizarre cutscenes

3) The delivering parcels is oddly addictive and compelling??

4) The graphics are amazing. I have literally not seen better, ever, some of the landscapes are approaching photorealism... It's been a long time since I've played a game and been gobsmacked by the scenery / cutscenes ... I suspect this is the absolute peak of the PS4 hardware right here.

As I expected I'm loving it so far but its probably not for everyone.

LeatherTrumpet 08-11-2019 04:26 PM

Can you leave a card if the person is out?

I stopped playing detroit when I spent half an hour cleaning up pizza boxes and getting the washing in.

Hahaha, it's not on par with that... Whilst you are indeed delivering parcels, it's across a post apocalyptic landscape so there's a lot of figuring out how to scale cliffs, etc.

And obviously the plot isn't about parcels... It's just a large part of the game mechanic.

LukeB 08-11-2019 06:04 PM

This looks boring watching it on twitch :skull:

Ramsay 08-11-2019 06:45 PM

Like TS said, It's weirdly addictive and compelling.
The story has me hooked. Lots of people won't like the hours and hours of cutscenes but I grew up on the MGS series so I love it haha

The cutscenes are long but they're still not in the league of MGS4 :joker:. That really did push it a couple of times. Me and my girlfriend (now wife :hee: ) were at Uni when I was playing it, and she wrote a University essay once (a rushed one, but still)... While I was watching a cutscene! Over an hour :umm2:

I've just looked it up actually - apparently it's a sequence of cutscenes in close succession and the total length is 71 minutes :joker:

Ramsay 08-11-2019 08:04 PM

That the very last one is it? Madness to think of that now haha almost a movie with the length of a cutscene at the end!

To be fair though, the last 1/3 of MGS4 despite not being much... Game... Is still one of my finest few hours of gaming. The 20 minute long fist fight with Ocelot [emoji23] :flutter:

I watched it on YouTube last night, at the start they're doing full CQC moves on each other and by the end they're slugging it out like they're outside the pub on a Saturday night :joker:

What do the poo grenades even do like idgi

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 29-01-2021 02:07 PM

When you encounter BT’s are you supposed to get caught and then that giant squid pops up that you have to kill? Or like are you supposed to stealth past them

You get tonnes of chiral crystals for killing the "animals" but early game killing them is a slog so stealth past whenever you can. Mid to late game it's much more viable to fight them, and you can also stealth kill the BT's while they're floating so they never even become an oily hands puddle.

Also sometimes (I think it's when the hands are a more gold colour rather than black?) they'll pull you straight under and trigger a voidout if they catch you, so you want to wade out of there fast.

The peepee and poopoo grenades... Honestly I don't think I ever carried or used any throughout the whole game [emoji23]. You'll get hematic grenades (blood) relatively early on, before you really need to fight anything, and I've never seen a need for the others .

Oh... the Internet says they can be used to reveal more weak spots on large enemies . That would be quite useful.

Also apparently poopoo grenades lure BT's to where they're thrown so you can use them to aid in sneaking past.

I played the whole game without knowing any of this. Lolz.

But yeah, I'd say sneak as much as possible until

Spoiler:

the first Warzone part when you'll unlock hematic weapons

And then a mix of fight/avoid. It would take forever to get through the game if you fought every time tbh.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 29-01-2021 04:27 PM

Yeah i’m like 12 hours in i think i got the blood bomb things quite a while ago

I just reached the weather station and did the quest where you have to build a safe house

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 31-01-2021 01:08 PM

It’s such a pain having to run back and forth with metals/ceramics to build the roads

It feels like 70% of my time in this game has been doing that

I’ve almost finished building the entire route 23 road though i just have like 3 paver things left

Technically, you don't have to do it, but IMO once it's done it's well worth it to have them built. Thinking about it though there'll be less eople actively playing now so that'll make it more of a chore... On release it was quite common to have random people add resources to help. I'm not 100% sure how the multilayer mechanic works there to be honest. But often I'd log off over night and come back to find that someone had supplied all of the metal or ceramic.

Also (game mechanics spoiler)

Spoiler:

I don't know if you've got Ziplines yet, but I set up a zip line network that covered a good 80% of the map and it was so satisfying :flutter:

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 01-02-2021 09:40 AM

Spoiler:

i haven’t got ziplines yet but that sounds amazing omg

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 01-02-2021 12:50 PM

Are there any other roads besides the one from lake knit to south knot?

I’ve seen like one paver (the one near the craftman) besides the ones on that route

They start at Lake Knot and head south all the way to South Knot... but they also branch off just north of the Distribution Centre that sits about half way between the two... and from there it heads West, then north/west up round the mountains, before winding all the way South to Mountain Knot... ... and not to be the bearer of bad news... ... but the path west from the crossroads round the mountain and down is quite a bit longer than the one from the crossroads heading directly south to South Knot :umm2:.

From Mountain Knot onwards it's all zipline fun though :D. Of course you do have to scramble up a lot of snowy mountains to find good spots for ziplines ... BUT so satisfying once they're set up.

Also
Spoiler:

Mountain Knot is actually on roughly the same longitude as the Weather Station, and from the Mountain Knot side it's possible to get to the peak and set up a zipline network right over the top of the mountain as a shortcut... which is a huge distance "up and round".
