If you were going to a dinner party?

At a friend or acquaintance house

what would you take?

if it was you and your partner

and if you were hosting what would you expect a gues to bring for you?

We'd take a good bottle of wine or maybe a liqueur.

I never expect anyone to bring anything to me, it saves being disappointed and it's a nice surprise when someone does bring something.

I think a bottle of decent wine is the minimum expected these days

You got no money for food when you are feeding your habit.

If you look at the damage, death and devastating effects of excess alcohol can have individuals and families, it’s more damaging than cocain use.

only due to wider use

you can have a dinner party and its lovely with some alcohol and millions do

take coke and its vile, no one eats - no laughing, just everyone trying to talk over everyone and worrying about when the next line is coming. tragic

Depends if we are going somewhere with kids or not, if kids, then in addition to a decent bottle of wine and some beers we would take some sweets, sometime flowers as well depends really, I would never go with 'my hands hanging' as my Mom would say when visitors called and brought nothing

I don’t drink smoke or do drugs, I have had people on coke say they wish they could be like me, go out without needing stimulants.

Beso 17-11-2019 06:41 PM

Coke is so boring...yawn.

Beso 17-11-2019 06:42 PM

Saying that though, if I was hosting I would want the other bloke to bring some.

bots 17-11-2019 06:46 PM

i would only bring lemonade, and I would pop in to the local pizza express and order a pizza before visiting

Dessert. Both what I'd take, and what I'd like people to bring :hee:. I don't really drink (my current rule of thumb is stag parties, and weddings but only if the kids aren't there). However, this presents a conundrum. Because we don't drink, we end up with a stockpile of alcohol that other people have gifted to us... And so we often re-gift those so we don't actually have to spend money on something else :joker:. So I end up bringing a bottle of wine then being like "Oh no you enjoy, I'll have Fanta".

There's a lovely bottle of Rose Champagne in my kitchen cupboard worth about £70, waiting patiently to be regifted to my dad and his wife at Christmas :joker:

Bet he's glad he didn't bring alcopops last time.

You joke Parm but you've actually just got me paranoid that we did get this bottle from them ... I can't remember. I might need to give it to someone else and buy them an actual present :worry:
