Swastika scrawled in staff-only area of Essex police station

A suspected far-right sympathiser is feared at large in the Metropolitan police, having got away with scrawling a swastika in a secure area of a police station, the Guardian has learned.

The hate crime was not made public by Britain’s largest force at the time and the culprit has not been caught.

The swastika was found in February drawn on an inside wall at Edmonton police station in Enfield, north London, in an area only accessible to officers and staff.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), said it had not been informed of the incident nor made aware of Scotland Yard’s investigation into it.

The Met said it had launched a thorough investigation into the swastika graffiti, which it had classed as a faith-based hate crime, but could not identify the perpetrator.

Maybe just maybe they've got a Hindi copper for whom the sign means well being!

and you wonder why the guardian is begging people for cash and failing to the point of bankruptcy

they have resorted to trolling their own readership. a once great newspaper (The Manchester guardian)

what a shame

Dont lie.
Thanks to the readers support they're in profit.

They're simply reporting the news as there was an internal investigation

I'd rather read a paper funded by readers than a press baron with an agenda.

I believe your post classifies as trolling.

Yes bc Hindus are known for scrawling swastikas on walls.

You should notify the Jews :umm2:

im serious i think they put articles like this in to troll their readership, this type of stuff would have been laughed out of the paper back in the heyday when they were proper journos exposing big business and politicians.

its a shame they resort to this lowest common denominator stuff, i used to read the paper when i was a student but not now its as bad as the independent

you should look t the Times or the Telegraph as they seem to have ridden the internet storm for newsprint

The seem to be implying it was drawn by a member of the met, but I imagine the 'staff' area is accessible to all kinds of staff, cleaners, admin, maintenance, , would be pretty stupid of someone permanently employed there to do it so its probably carried out by a casual worker.

Marsh. 25-11-2019 05:04 PM

Is there not CCTV?

LeatherTrumpet 25-11-2019 05:07 PM

"A suspected far-right sympathiser is feared at large in the Metropolitan police"

i mean really??

feared by who?

Its a blatant attempt to troll the readership just at the daily Mail does each day

Marsh. 25-11-2019 05:08 PM

You only have this attitude because of the words "far right" if it was "far left" graffitti you'd be faking outrage.

In a staff room? generally no, it would be an invasion of privacy

LeatherTrumpet 25-11-2019 05:12 PM

the size of the swastika was smaller than thumbnail

I heard "staff area". That could be a large proportion of offices and corridors.

If it was a break room type place then fair enough and it's a wonder someone has had the chance to do so without someone else noticing.

Would you want police time taken up spending days/weeks looking at cctv for that?

I'm serious too.
And I hope you realize the fact you dont approve of this newspaper is a big argument in its favour.
I doubt the paper changed since your youth. Maybe it's your views that's changed? Idk and I dont care. I mean you are regularly cheerleading for trump here. So not taking any advice on objective reporting from you.

Yes that is exactly what i am saying, had it it been 348 foot tall that would have been an issue, the fact it was 25mm tall means , well i think you can follow

It means that there's someone working at that police station with such extreme views that they'd risk their job to grafitti a swastika. Bigotry should have no place in a police force so if there's a risk that someone on the beat or high up could be a threat to innocent people then it must be investigated.

People who hold bigotted viewpoints cannot serve the public equally or correctly and should not be in a position of power.

bitontheslide 25-11-2019 06:12 PM

it's not like the police have a history of being racist
