Welcome back to Silent Hill - To be revealed at the VGAs?

So it’s been a little over 7 years since the last Silent Hill game (2012’s Book of Memories), or 5 if we count P.T.. Many fans have completely written off the chances of there ever being another title in the series. Operating under the assumption that you already know all about what went down, odds were in favor of Silent Hill becoming little more than an aesthetic to bolt onto video gambling machines. Well, fans may (thankfully) be proven wrong in the near future as a new leak has sprung up regarding the future of the series. DuskGolem aka AestheticGamer (who has been consistently on the nose with leaks regarding the Resident Evil franchise time and time again) tweeted some information this afternoon that fans of the series (hell, horror in general) will be delighted to hear about.

In other news while I’m dropping this stuff, and I think I can talk about this, I’ll mention there is a couple new Silent Hill games in the works. Konami about two years ago reached out to various developers to pitch ideas for two Silent Hill games, one a soft-reboot of the franchise, the other an episodic TellTale/Until Dawn-style game to go alongside the reboot. I don’t know anything more than that though, but I sure do hope Konami’s given it the appropriate budget and found the right developer to make those games succeed.

This is just a guess, but I’d say there’s a high chance one or both of those titles may be revealed this year, but we’ll see. I don’t actually know their plans or anything about these games other than their existence though, I don’t know much about the inner workings of Konami.

We can also verify that, while we can’t discuss any details, we’ve also heard from our own independent source that a Silent Hill project is in development. These two sources are (in our opinion) the strongest evidence yet that Silent Hill may really be back from the dead.

Considering Konami’s radio silence (no pun intended) on the series outside of more slot machines, this news comes as a massive surprise to fans. We’ll be waiting with bated breath for whatever announcement may be coming. If it is indeed to be revealed this year (as AestheticGamer suggests), it would most likely be at E3 or during a Sony State of Play. Given the timing future titles would most likely release for PS5 and Xbox SX, and either console nabbing the chance to be the first to announce a new Silent Hill is easily “game of show” material that would steal the spotlight from either console presentation.

Silent Hill may be on the horizon, friends. For now, all we can do is wait.

I'm longtime friends with the editor in chief of Rely on Horror some I'm inclined to believe this is actually true

Haven't forgiven them for killing off P.T. (and the MGS franchise) :hmph: even if it did give me Death Stranding. Don't trust Konami as far as I could throw them... they'll try to fill it with multiplayer components and microtransactions. Or it'll be a mobile game or summat.

Scarlett. 22-01-2020 04:25 PM

Fingers crossed they don't go down that route

My favorite Horror series, I seriously hope that this is true.

Telltale games are sf boring

There’s literally no gameplay they might as well be interactive DVD’s

Until Dawn was so good though and if it's like that I'll buy.

Telltale takes more of a JRPG approach where it's more about the story than about traditional gameplay elements.

I personally have really liked the Telltale Games that I've played (Batman and TWD for anyone that cares) but I understand that the style will be marmite.

If Silent Hill adapt that style into one of their games then I think it'd work best as a spin-off idea.

Life is Strange is another example of a good Telltale like game

My hopes aren't particularly high since Konami makes EA look competent and ethical.

Silent Hill would work really well as an Until Dawn styled game though, it's attempts at combat were always the weakest parts of the games.

Agreed; done right the style of game is fine. I also loved Detroit though I know it's a bit more divisive. Choices have to have a meaningful impact though, the problem with the actual Telltale games is that it quickly becomes apparent that you choices don't actually have much impact.

Yep this is my worry, unless they've had a massive turnaround in the last couple of years then I can't imagine it being more than an attempt to cash in on the franchise which would be a shame.

Toy Soldier 24-01-2020 09:46 AM

I'm still so mad about MGS. I'm holding out hope that Sony or someone else with financial clout will buy the rights from Konami and give the helm back to Kojima :joker:.

You may recall a rumor that we previously reported on regarding the future of the iconic Silent Hill series. Namely, Konami had been seeking out developers in order to continue the Silent Hill franchise and seemingly settled on two new entries. What was reported on at the time was a Silent Hill reboot along with some sort of anthology or episodic Silent Hill.

We have a trusted source regarding this news, and another source has corroborated with us that Masahiro Ito (creature designer for the first four titles in the series) is indeed working on a Silent Hill game as previously speculated. These same sources name Sony as the driving force behind bringing the series back (most likely as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, though this is conjecture on our and our sources’ part).

Our first source, who we’ve come to trust well, indicates that Keiichiro Toyama (director and writer of the original 1999 Silent Hill) and Akira Yamaoka (composer for the majority of the franchise) are also returning alongside Masahiro Ito. The trio will helm a “soft reboot” of the Silent Hill series, possibly just called Silent Hill. SIE Japan Studio, which possibly includes team members from “Project Siren,” the group behind Siren: Blood Curse for the PlayStation 3, will be behind its development in some capacity (either in full or in part). Our source states that this title has been in the works for about a year. Our second source — which has no connection to the first — was aware of Ito’s involvement in a new Silent Hill title and informed us of that information some time ago.

The second Silent Hill title referenced in previous rumors is still being worked out at the moment, but it’s looking as if it very well could be Silent Hills, Hideo Kojima’s famously canceled title. According to our first source, Sony is working to patch up the relationship between Kojima Productions and Konami in order to resurrect the game due to the amount of buzz and continued demand for it five years after its cancellation; our second source shared this same information with us in the past. We can now report on it with some confidence in its legitimacy.

Source number one goes on to say that the game will even make use of the next-gen PlayStation VR headset for PlayStation 5. Allegedly, Sony has pitched the game to Kojima as a title more akin to a TellTale/Supermassive narrative-driven title, which would offer him “full creative freedom.” Our source does emphasize, however, that Silent Hills is not yet a done deal, and that for now the only game in active development is the reboot from SIE Japan Studio. While Sony is pushing for the series’ comeback, our sources do not say that they’re out to own the Silent Hill IP; Sony and Konami are working together on these titles.

This is all we’re able to report on for now, but more information may become available sometime in the future. And as a reminder, even though we trust our sources, this information should still be treated as a rumor. We will keep you posted regarding any further developments in this story.

My longtime friend, CJ Melendez is the Editor in Chief at Rely on Horror and he's never lied or made stuff up, so if they say they have a source, they definately do!

Hmm

Tom4784 11-06-2020 03:07 PM

It'll probably be revealed tonight, there's too many sources saying it exists to doubt it now but RE8 is also rumoured to make an appearance and I can only see one of them debuting tonight so who knows?

Scarlett. 12-06-2020 01:16 AM

Hmm it didn't appear, but I guess maybe they couldnt get stuff together in time for a reveal, due to everything that is going on? Apparently Sony will be showing more games in August, so we could see it then

Scarlett. 05-12-2020 07:31 PM

This rumour refuses to die, maybe this time it will come through?

Tom4784 05-12-2020 08:25 PM

I'm just ignoring it for now, I've had my hopes built up too many times at this point.

Scarlett. 05-12-2020 08:27 PM

Yeah, I'm feeling the same at this point, if it happens, I'll be overjoyed, if it doesn't, meh
