ranking CHER albums (all 26)

something I've wanted to do for a while but I've never been brave enough to venture any further back than the late 80s albums. So over the last week or so I listened to every single album (luckily they're all relatively short) which wasn't easy because some aren't even on any streaming services.. luckily trusty Youtube was there for me. So I decided to rank them similar to what I did with Kylies albums a few weeks ago.

It's kind of hard to rank Chers albums properly because theres such a difference between her 60s/70s stuff compared to her modern stuff.. and each decade she switches genre.. but anyway.. I put a fave song from each album in a spoiler

26-21
Spoiler:

The Sonny Side of Cher (1966)
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/fQ4AA...alr/s-l300.jpg
Theres no real reason for this one to be last, it was just my least favourite of her early stuff.
Spoiler:

25
Backstage (1968)

Spoiler:

24
Bittersweet White Light (1973)

Spoiler:

23
3614 Jackson Highway (1969)

Spoiler:

22
Dancing Queen (2018)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...cing_Queen.png
I had to put at least 1 later album lower on the list. Obviously the songs are catchy because its Abba but Cher needs to put that autotuner down.
Spoiler:

21
All I Really Wanna Do (1965)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...want-to-do.JPG
Her very first album, its actually pretty good, I found it a lot more enjoyable than the few that came after it listed above.
Spoiler:

20-11

Spoiler:

20
Cher (1966)

Spoiler:

19
With Love, Cher (1967)

Spoiler:

18
Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves (1971)
https://img.discogs.com/_6cfsLCut-uS...54453.jpeg.jpg
The title track is one of my favourite Cher songs, but the rest of the album was a bit underwhelming.
Spoiler:

17
Take Me Home (1979)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...takemehome.jpg
Chers take on disco music.. not her best genre. Interesting cover art.. reminds me of greta from the gremlins
Spoiler:

16
Prisoner (1979)
https://img.discogs.com/LlMRloucgGoQ...09342.jpeg.jpg
This album was the start of her transition into more rock music which carried on into the mid 90s.
Spoiler:

15
I Paralyze (1982)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...I_Paralyze.png
Spoiler:

14
Living Proof (2001)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...ving_Proof.png
It seems like they tried to recreate the success of 'Believe' but it wasn't quite as good. Still, this album has a few bops.
Spoiler:

13
Closer To The Truth (2013)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...m_Cover%29.png
Her first album after 12 years, I would say its on par with Living Proof.
Spoiler:

12
Cher (1987)
https://img.discogs.com/b5j5HKoiuAFb...01439.jpeg.jpg
This album helped reignite her music career in the late 80s and you can see why, with a heavy rock inspired sound that was at its height back then.
Spoiler:

11
Foxy Lady (1972)
https://www.herbmusic.net/album/cove..._foxy_lady.jpg
One of the stronger of her early albums
Spoiler:

10-1

Spoiler:

10
Cherished (1977)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.../Cherished.jpg
Some of her best vocals on this album.
Spoiler:

9
Stars (1975)
https://img.discogs.com/9zGBq-A2ltGS...3-6375.png.jpg
Some more amazing vocals.
Spoiler:

8
Love Hurts (1991)

Spoiler:

7
It's A Mans World (1995)
https://img.discogs.com/_NWHCq5OXkyv...95122.jpeg.jpg
a bit of an R&B inspiration mixed with a a hint of rock and blues
Spoiler:

6
Half-Breed (1973)
https://img.discogs.com/LyUxEhn3qmBM...-9338.jpeg.jpg
This album has a gentle and natural feel, something about made it stand out from her other early work.
Spoiler:

5
Dark Lady (1974)
https://img.discogs.com/xMXbCUD49RNw...77544.jpeg.jpg
This early album stands out too, but in the opposite way to Half Breed. It has a darker yet more upbeat sound to it.
Spoiler:

4
not.com.mercial (2000)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...cial_front.jpg
written by Cher and recorded in 1994, her label rejected it at the time so she released it 6 years later free online. Her song writing skills really show on this album and the production is some of her best, I have no idea why her label rejected it. Its also the only album where Cher swears, so thats nice..
Spoiler:

3
I'd Rather Believe In You (1976)
https://img.discogs.com/EEKXKmu-hsLF...-6210.jpeg.jpg
This, along with Cherished and Stars are the 3 albums never released on CD or
available to stream. I dont know why because this album is one of her best pieces of work.
Spoiler:

2
Heart of Stone (1989)
https://img.discogs.com/aBdp8YYgS2f6...-1307.jpeg.jpg
This album has 2 covers, but this one looks like a skull.. which makes it better. Just a very solid album, some big hits and great production.

1
Believe (1998)
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....KL._SY355_.jpg
It probably seems like such an obvious choice, considering its her biggest selling album and obviously has 'Believe' on it.. but it actually is a very good album filled with 90s euro pop songs. I cant deny that it was definitely the one I enjoyed listening to the most.
