Yes I want to go, just to get my head round the fact so many people died there at the hands of the worst of humanity, my brother has been and said he felt an overwhelming feeling of sadness and a quietness he will never forget,i would like to pay my respects by maybe leaving a wreath or flowers,I don't agree with the people who go and take selfies though, that is so disrespectful, but yes although I would probably be really emotional, its a place I would like to go.

A friend of mine went when she visited Poland a few years back and said it’s the most harrowing experience she’s ever had. She said it’s just unimaginably sad there, desolate. She also said that she couldn’t hear a single bird singing in the trees or anything around there - she remembers that very vividly.

People who take selfies and view it as a tourist attraction is gross but id go on a historical trip to learn more about it

I do think the tours are a good idea, especially for young people, learning about what horrors happened before they were born.

I have done and I don’t feel it’s distasteful at all (unless you’re posing and taking selfies or something). I think as many should go as possible, just to get even the smallest glimpse of the sheer horror. It’s something I will never forget.

No it won’t change the past, and have seen the horrific images in documentaries.

Yes I find it all really interesting, devastating obviously but also interesting.

Everyone should visit. My German friends were taken there on a school trip. The Germans have faced up to the horrors of the Holocaust, they faced their war crimes in a way Japan and Russia never did. And I think they work hard to make sure it is never forgotten.

It's not something I've ever wanted to do but I understand why people want to. I have visited Anne Frank's house in Amsterdam, Ground Zero in NYC and the Catacombs in Paris. I don't find that sort of thing distasteful. If anything, it's a mark of respect to visit these places to ensure that what happened there is never forgotten.

I would be really interested in going the next time I visit Poland (if I do). I was close to visiting it a few years ago but decided against it, which I regret. Same with Chernobyl, I would like to see that too.

I'm conflicted about it.

I think it's obviously an important location that people should visit for historical reasons, the things that happened there and in camps across Europe should never be repeated or forgotten but at the same time, I find the idea of it becoming a tourist trap grotesque.

Yeah weren't they doing the same thing with the Chernobyl disaster?? , I find things like that bizarre when it's turned into a touristy place.

But I agree about the historical side of things being important to learn.
