https://news.sky.com/story/tsunami-w...maica-11920247
[The powerful tremor struck 72 miles (117 km) northwest of the coastal town of Lucea at a depth of around six miles (10 km), the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.] |
I've called the folks, they're fine and no damage. Mum was in the kitchen when she heard both of them ran outside thinking it was an explosion. Quite scayy they said.

Oh gosh glad your folks are okay Girth, scary stuff
|
Awww Thanks Cherie
They get high winds bordering on hurricanes every late August to mid September so I knew they'd be OK. Their house is so sturdy it'd take more than a mild quake to shake it. |
Glad it's not the season my nan goes over

Right now, is the cheapest time to go. I like going this time cuz its not boiling but slightly breezy. The beaches are particularly lovely at this time of year. Clear with few tourists. incidentally, that late-August time is after Xmas the most expensive time to go. |
|
...I think the threat has passed now but the quake was felt in Miami as well...the power of these things is incredible and terrifying...I’m glad that Mr and Mrs Girth senior are all okay...mum was in the kitchen, organising her day etc..not phased by it at all.....
