One of the most draconian laws still practised in this country.

No i don't, i would much prefer the BBC to have ads than be required by law to pay for something i watch very little of.

Toy Soldier 03-02-2020 03:07 PM

25p a month I'll need to cancel Sky :worry:

Next you'll be sending me down the mines, foraging for scraps of coal to keep my family warm!

You aren't required. You have a choice.

Livia 03-02-2020 05:56 PM

Still a great bargain compared to what Sky charges a month.

True, however I'd be more for the BBC to move to a subscription model, then at least you can pay as you watch. Or better still air adverts.

But even if you don't watch 1 second of BBC programming, you're still required by law to pay licence fee if you watch any other channel, in the 'free' world that's disgraceful imo.

And better quality.

Pay a fortune for a squillion channels with nothing on them but repeats of old BBC shows. :hehe:

Channel 4 is part funded by the licence.

Nothing is free.

To be fair though... if you want Sky you have to pay the license fee AS WELL as Sky subscription.

I reckon Sky should make some sort of deal where BBC channels are a package that costs say £12 a month and it gets paid forward to the BBC by Sky if you take that package... and you can otherwise still watch TV but with no Beeb channels :hee:.

Having grown up with the member-supported funding system used for the PBS here in the US, I don't know how well it'd go down with you guys, even if its to keep ads out of programmes. I'm also thinking that maybe the BBC could do the NPO treatment and only do ads inbetween programmes.

If the latest season of Doctor Who is anything to go by then I agree.

If the BBC are gonna rip people off at least try to make the shows entertaining.
