I'd be fine with them banning ALL of the tabloids from official press stuff, because all of the tabloids are... Not journalism... And already a disaster for democracy.
But banning the ones that usually oppose them whilst still allowing the ones that usually support them like The Sun and Mail? Very, very concerning.

Tom4784 09-02-2020 12:27 PM

This is what Tory voters voted for, a slow maniacal erosion of democracy and our rights. I hope hysteria over immigration and the EU was worth it.

You ain't gonna win back power with these tactics. These snobbish tactics are exactly why you keep losing at the ballot box.

"People vote for the Tories and Brexit because they're thick."

"Yup - and we're thick enough to keep doing it to prove a point, so take THAT Mister Smarty pants!!"

Alf 09-02-2020 12:38 PM

Just advice, you're free to ignore it.

I'm not quite arrogant enough to believe that anything I do or don't say has any effect on national politics. We're just dust in a thunderstorm, brother.

You can't convince a cult to do anything and I have no interest in trying. Boris could **** in the breakfast of Tory voters and they'd treat it like a gift from god. The only thing to be done now is to constantly remind those voters that they voted for every **** thing that's coming their way. It's not because of the EU, immigrants, the unemployed, labour, remainers, it's because they voted for it and they'll get exactly what they voted for.

The fact you think that politics is a sport where you, as a voter can 'win' by getting your own way is part of the larger problem. Politics is not a sport. Parties shouldn't be worshipped like football clubs, they are meant to work for us, we are not meant to idolise them.

Right Wing politics is all about cutting off their nose to spite the face that are the 'libs'.

It's all about 'owning the libs' and nothing more. It's childish.

I'm not saying you think I did, but just to be clear, I didn't vote Tory.

I'm just saying, your tactics of calling all Tory voters dumb, is not going to work.

Tactics would assume I'm playing a game, politics isn't a game, as I made clear in the last post. I don't think the public will ever wake up to what the Tories are doing now, if the past ten years weren't enough to set the alarm bells ringing then we're destined to become a one party state. All that's left to do now is remind people of their mistakes constantly.

Constantly telling people that they made mistakes, basically saying that they are wrong and you are right, is not gonna win them over. Better arguments will win the day.

..... How many times do I have to say it? I'm not interested in winning them over because you can't 'win over' a cultist mindset. If anyone gets upset with me reminding them that they voted for what they'll get then they probably should have researched what they were voting for before pledging blind allegiance to the tories.

Reasoned arguments don't mean **** to people who, in 2016, voted for a side that told them to disregard the views of experts because they didn't like what they said. Logic has no bearing on a mind that, to this day, still blames 'remoaners' for everything that will happen although brexiters have been at the helm for years. There's no argument to convince people to vote against the party telling them pretty fairy tales when the voters have no interest in reality, they just want smoke blown up their arses and to be told lies that benefit their own agenda.

I'm not gonna waste my time convincing people like that, they'll get what they deserve at the hands of the people they voted for.

Maybe they disregard the views of the experts because what they were being told, wasn't ringing true to them within their own personal experiences? Maybe they made up their own minds?

Yes, exactly, they disregarded opinions of experts that know far more than they do about the economy because they didn't like what those experts had to say.

Thank you for highlighting their arrogance. Alf.

If all the world's most renowned experts in a field are telling you the same thing, you listen.

Such blatherings are quite amusing now.

As always, you can stick me on ignore if my opinion offends you so much.

back to the topic, it seems the Boris government are intent on replicating Trump's approach to the press and that doesn't bode well for anyone

I hate the media, it's so effing biased in favour of Tories.

Notice how after Johnson won ,then little stories came out about more corruption in their party which they kept hush :bored: .

Johnson can't take any criticism , he's a bumbling idiot that only responds to people kissing his bum.

Him & Trump are like twins seperated at birth!.

That depends on what you seek out to read or listen to. For example, I read different opinions from 'world experts' in the Guardian from what I read in the Times. Or on TV depending on their chosen preferences. Even the world experts didn't agree, surely you know they rarely do on any subject.

Which is why you make an informed decision by not using biased forms of media and draw a conclusion from the facts and not the spin.

Most experts worth a damn agreed that Brexit would likely have a disastrous effect on the economy and it's no surprise that the value of the pound fluctuated a lot to co-incide with events and developments relating to Brexit. Whenever we tumbled towards no deal, the pound dropped.

So many experts warned of the effects of Brexit that Micheal Gove, one of the leaders of Brexit spoke out against experts and essentially telling voters that they had 'enough of experts'. He basically told people to disregard things that didn't make sense with their fantasy of what Brexit would look like. He wouldn't have said such a thing if enough of the world's respected experts supported Brexit, it was only experts on the fringe that tried to paint a positive image of Brexit's viability.

My point still stands.
