Indiana Jones: Harrison Ford Back For New Film

The action-hero archaeologist will return to cinemas for his fifth adventure in the series in 2019, Disney confirms.

Tuesday 15 March 2016

Harrison Ford is to play Indiana Jones in a fifth instalment of the film series - 34 years after Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

Walt Disney Co said the new, as yet untitled film will be directed by Steven Spielberg and is expected to be released in July 2019.

"Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history and we can't wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019," Disney chairman Alan Horn said in a statement.

It will come 11 years after the fourth movie in the franchise, 2008's Indiana Jones And The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The other films in the series are Indiana Jones And The Temple of Doom (1984) and Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (1989).

Ford's action-hero archaeologist 'Indy' was recently declared the greatest movie personality of all time, beating Ian Fleming's James Bond into second place.

Ford, 73, also took third place in the poll for his role as Han Solo in the Star Wars films, voted for by readers of Empire magazine.

There had been speculation that Shia LaBeouf, who played Jones' sidekick in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, might take up the hero's whip.

But in October, the films' series producer declared the role would only ever be played by Ford.

Frank Marshall said: "We are not doing the Bond thing where we're going to call somebody else Indiana Jones."

In November, Spielberg had said he would love to make a fifth Indiana Jones before Ford turns 80.

The Hollywood director told French radio station RTL he was keen to create another adventure for the archaeologist.

"I am hoping one day to make it to a fifth Indiana Jones," he said, adding: "I would hope to make it before Harrison Ford is 80 and I get much older."

Nooooo.

Won't he be dead by then? :omgno:

Calderyon 15-03-2016 06:42 PM

I´m okay with it.

That being said, it might end up being yet another "Crystal Skull" -like film, which i think no-one would want to happen.

Oh god.

I'm not a fan of the series so I'm not bothered if they make it or not personally, but I do think it would be great to have someone his age starring in an action film. Older actors are always saying how there's a lot of ageism in the industry and I don't see any reason why he should stop. If he's psychically capable in the role then his age shouldn't be a factor imo.

Because it's not realistic to have an elderly man doing the kind of stuff Indiana Jones used to do, that isn't ageism, it's realism

I'm all for it , this is a chance to bring another young actor into the franchise ,he could be Harrisons son or even a 'she' that would be interesting, and he/she maybe could do more action scenes with Harrison still in the mix , I think it would be good , depends what they do with it and Harrison IS a great actor , and he shows no signs of retiring.

I don't really know the sorts of things he did in the films, but some older people can be very physically fit, like that guy who swam the english channel in his 70's (I can't think of any other examples off the top of my head but I'm sure there are loads :hee: ). But anyway he's not necessarily going to be doing the same things he used to do. We don't know how his character will be written yet, it might be that they have someone younger for the more action orientated scenes if it's not realistic for him to do them, and his role could be more of a mentor type thing. I don't know. I just think personally that it shouldn't be written off because of his age is all.

The release date is now 10th July 2020. For people keeping count Harrison Ford will be almost 78 when it comes out, presumably 76-77 when they film it.

Quote:

Disney dated a slew of films on Tuesday, including “Star Wars: Episode IX,” the live-action “Lion King” reboot, and “Frozen 2.” It also moved the openings for “Indiana Jones,” “Wreck-It Ralph 2,” “Wrinkle in Time,” and others.

The fifth film in the long-running “Indiana Jones” series will now gallop into theaters on July 10, 2020. It was previously slated to debut on July 19, 2019. The delay isn’t surprising. Director Steven Spielberg still has several projects on his dance card, including “Ready Player One,” a big-screen adaptation of a best-selling science-fiction novel, and a drama about the Pentagon Papers with Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep. The delay also gives the filmmakers more time to cook up a script that both Spielberg and Harrison Ford approve of, though it does mean that the action star will be in his late seventies when the film opens. By that point many globe-trotting adventurers would be forgiven for thinking about retirement.....
