The Sun takes down article about Caroline Flack from website

The Sun has removed an article about a “brutal” Valentine’s Day card mocking the deceased former Love Island presenter Caroline Flack from its website.

The story highlighted a card featuring a drawing of the presenter with a message saying “I’ll ****ing lamp you” but it was removed from the website and replaced with a legal warning, amid concerns about how the media handled coverage of her arrest.

It is unclear when the story about the Valentine’s Day card, which was published on Friday but replaced with a legal removal story by Saturday evening – when her death was announced – was taken down.

Flack had been repeatedly targeted by the the tabloid press following her arrest for an alleged assault against her boyfriend last month, which counted her out from the current series of Love Island. The presenter was found dead on Saturday.

In the now-deleted story, the Sun highlighted the card mocking the alleged assault of her boyfriend Lewis Burton in December.

The “exclusive” story about the card quoted the card illustrator, Samuel Hague, who said his latest creation has been left “blank inside for your personal message” and comes with a “good quality red envelope”.

When asked about the card, he said: “There’s nothing I wish to add. I’m surprised that’s the card you choose to write about. I’ve joked about far worse.”

Love Island has attracted substantial press coverage for the aftercare support given to it contestants, after two people who had previously taken part in the hit ITV2 show killed themselves. The channel has insisted that these deaths happened long after the individuals were on the show.

Love Island has proved to be a financial cash cow for the broadcaster which last summer made clear it would provide substantial aftercare support to those who take part in the programme.

Flack was due to host Love Island’s first winter edition, which is currently being broadcast from Cape Town in South Africa, but was replaced at the last minute by Laura Whitmore.

After being charged with assault, Flack was forced to stay away from her boyfriend and had severely limited her social media output.

On Saturday afternoon the Sun’s executive editor, Dan Wootton, paid tribute to Flack: “Caroline was hung out to dry by ITV. She was distraught they didn’t stand by her. And distraught about the lack of support she was given. Caroline and I were devastated to attend the funeral of our friend Mike Thalassitis last year. I cannot believe we are here again.”

I posted a fragment of this in the Caroline thread. But it deserves its own thread. The bloody hypocrisy of The Scum newspaper needs to be highlighted.
See how the hate merchant wootton blames all on itv. Presumably his paper was her rock of support :umm2:

A good, respectful gesture by The Sun.

Hate to break it to you arista, but that's not for you to decide.

Their nastiness should be exposed , nothing wrong with reporting on stories but there is just no need for the exaggeration and fabrication , her boyfriend didn't want to press charges so that should have been the end of that, but they have to twist the knife.

Very odd response to praise the paper. :conf:

Dont you find it interesting that they're bothering to delete the articles at all? No one can make any serious accusations against them so why bother?

I've never harassed Jack Grealish on Social Media, or been writing horrible news stories on him constantly for The Sun or The Daily Star to drive him over the edge.

Tbh I'd be massively surprised if he even knows about this Website, let alone me.:joker:

The comparison just isn't the same imo.

Completely agree.
There is a difference between reporting and hounding people. To death in this sad case of Caroline.

Literally every single person has suggested that the media have been hounding her every single day and wouldn’t let her be. So who are you to say that isn’t the case?

Oh come off it, they could reported the incident seriously instead of plastering their front pages with evil quips and pictures of the alleged bed it happened on. Even you know that is crass.

Daniel-X 16-02-2020 12:35 PM

Jc this website is so draining these days, partly the reason why I don’t post as much as I used to anymore.

Even something as tragic as a suicide of a young female celebrity is good enough reason for some people to try and create arguments. Have a day off.

Daniel-X 16-02-2020 12:35 PM

There’s a reason why The Scum is banned in Liverpool, shame it isn’t nationwide.

The media have been having a field day with her for months now. Of course they've played a massive part in her death. Stop thinking otherwise.

And equally they made her famous, made her wealthy and gave her a lavish lifestyle. She has been treated no differently than any person of her equivalence on tv.

She clearly wasn't doing well mentally. People have gotten away with murder by pleading insanity. I think you should give the benefit of the doubt that she wasn't really thinking clearly when she committed that act.

I agree Jess, unless she was high on drugs and alcohol which can make a sane person do crazy things?

Disagree completely. They didn’t care about making Caroline famous or wealthy at all. All they cared about was selling papers and making more money for themselves. I don’t think they’re really bothered about what they report, how they report it and who it involves, as long as it earns them money that’s all they care about.
