Elton John halts New Zealand gig after pneumonia diagnosis

[A visibly upset Sir Elton John
has been forced to cut short a
concert in New Zealand after falling ill
with walking pneumonia.
The musician, 72, lost his
voice mid-way through his set
at Auckland's Mount Smart Stadium
on Sunday.
"I've just completely lost my voice.
I can't sing," Sir Elton told the crowd.
"I've got to go. I'm sorry."
Sir Elton appeared to break down
in tears as he leaned on his piano
and shook his head.]

Walking pneumonia? Never heard that term. Is that better or worse then pneumonia itself?

Alf 16-02-2020 06:21 PM

Probably from all that time he spent in Russia with that Nikita, woman. It's cold over there.

Poor Elton.

Hopefully he'll be back up on his feet, 2020 needs some good news.

It means He's still standing

the guy is obviously unwell, but i can't help but feel that illnesses are given such names to make them sound more serious than they actually are.

Pneumonia is not an illness that you would be able to get out of bed for, it's life threatening so having a walking version is just stupid. He has a chest infection of some sort, sure, and that can be very serious ... but lets not trivialise very serious conditions by re purposing them

As long as it's not the Wu Flu...

But yeah when someone is elderly they need to be careful with their health, he should let himself take the time to recover, and hopefully the illness won't have any lasting effects on his voice.

That's not necessarily true, pneumonia literally just means fluid in the lungs. So it is what it is. Mild. Versions are still nasty, yes, but not necessarily "can't get out of bed" for someone with otherwise healthy lungs. Probably ADVISABLE to stay in bed, of course.
