Financial support? What about the self employed?

Boris and his Chancellor have promised extensive financial support packages for businesses large and small. Very impressive. But no mention was made of the self employed individuals who are going to be affected just as badly.

What will happen there?

We get shafted as usual

Marsh. 17-03-2020 04:47 PM

The self employed are the "small businesses" surely? Or do you need to employ others?

Niamh. 17-03-2020 04:47 PM

Benefits and mortgage help are being offered to self employed here as well as everyone else, I'm sure it will be the same in the UK

Yes thanks Niamh. Thats what I needed to know.

Crimson Dynamo 17-03-2020 04:59 PM

There was NO mention of the self-employed today

Crimson Dynamo 17-03-2020 05:29 PM

HMRC have now set up a help line specifically for the self-employed people and businesses who could be struggling due to COVID-19.

You can contact this helpline at: 0800 0159 559

I am hoping that

1. dead people have estates that auctions sell. More dead=more stuff

2. people who are skint as they lose their jobs have to take stuff to their local auction to get money

Boris bans auctions

yes they do, people in times of crisis treat themselves to little luxuries

people at home will want to collect small things to make them happy when they arrive
a little treat each day the posty arrives

i am worried that when i go to auctions this week - its panic buy:shocked:

the only good thing is it may frighten off the private buyer who wont risk it so us dealers will mop up

i called up my reg auction this week and said are you closing and their reply was "f.u.ck off"

Marsh. 17-03-2020 06:21 PM

Not a clock being a treat.

Well Rodney from Sheffield would disagree. he bought a lovely nap hat mantel clock this week and called me for 24 mins to tell me all about how he was going to refurbish it

Why would it matter if they both made a profit  If the man is a restorer that is his profession, completely different to being a dealer, that’s how economy works
