Effects of the Coronavirus on your job?

So how has the virus affected everyone else’s jobs?

I work in a cafe in Debenhams and we’re being closed over the weekend (I’m currently on a week off) and being moved onto the shop floor but the whole store is literally dead for the majority of the day.

Kizzy 19-03-2020 02:49 PM

I work in a supermarket distribution centre no chance of us closing :/
The working time directive for the drivers has just been relaxed so stock is able to get to stores. Not sure I agree with that myself as they do need their rest days. I hope it doesn't lead to more accidents on the roads :/

Hasn't had any affect yet but I worry how things are going to work out in the coming weeks. This weekend, we are looking at limiting the direct support we are giving people. God forbid if we get put on a total lockdown.

I work from home, but I have had to pick up some work from some admins who are self isolating, all admin work has been moved to remote only working now

After tomorrow morning, I have no job until this is all over

Not sure yet, hopefully finding out tonight, company never bothered to inform anyone that we were closing for the foreseeable and posted it on social media on Tuesday.

Saph 19-03-2020 03:16 PM

my company is the only one left in our offices, the other 2 had their last days on tuesday.. theres talk of us working from home but tbh I think I would rather just go in, dont fancy sitting in my bedroom chatting to customers

Oliver_W 19-03-2020 03:30 PM

I work in a school but I was off sick all week before the announcement about Friday anyway...

JerseyWins 19-03-2020 04:21 PM

Wasn't effecting my job until today. Working from home now (voluntary decision from my boss) and I'm not even sure for how long yet.

AnnieK 19-03-2020 04:50 PM

At the moment we are still functioning in the office....desk have been rearranged for social distancing and we are doing face time interviews. We have the option of working at home and are preparing to run skeleton staff but I would prefer to be in the office as long as its safe to be

Withano 19-03-2020 05:13 PM

No effect. Highly unlikely to change

bots 19-03-2020 05:18 PM

my business is fine for the moment and "should" be ok, but things are so unpredictable I don't think anyone can be sure

Firewire 19-03-2020 05:20 PM

I work in TV and pretty much all productions have shut down, so I've been laid off. Not sure how long it'll be, all I know is it'll be unpaid.

Crimson Dynamo 19-03-2020 05:32 PM

nothing yet but i can feel it gathering with every announcement. i am very worried about it for sure.

I can’t sit my exams to advance in my job. Will cost me a 10k salary jump that I would have got in September. Will have to wait a year longer

I have 2 cleaning jobs but this virus has made me realise who actually cares for me and my familys wellbeing

My wife is due to have a baby in 2 weeks so she is classed as vunerable

My University cleaning job have sent me home for as long as I need until baby is born and then I get paternity leave but have said I should isolate not even go to a shop and have no one visit

My school cleaning job have told us all that we are all in next week all teachers all support staff etc for those like 7 or 8 kids that may need to come in due to being children of keyworkers. Everyone has to go in like normal unless they have coronavirus or are vunerable themselves so I have been told under no circumstances can I isolate

So Im in limbo I am being told to isolate but then being told thats not an option.

I have said there is no point my wife having to go in isolation for weeks if i could give it to her anyway they dont seem to care

So once I have got a few finances sorted I know just who I will be telling to stick their job up their arse. Why they need absolutely every member of staff in for a possible 7 or 8 kids maximum is barmy!!

Do you still have to go in next week?

Crimson Dynamo 19-03-2020 06:21 PM

Jake the BBC doctor said today

make sure any new mum breast feeds and she was very firm in this

Strictly Jake 19-03-2020 06:22 PM

Oh and on top of that if the school ends up having noone coming in in the next few weeks we might be redeployed to other social sectors such as care homes, mowing roundabouts you name it, even teachers the same, why that is the case when we might not have training in those sectors I have no idea

But in the meeting I was in today they said there is talk schools could potentially be closed until september!

I thought about that but knowing the school I work for they will require some sort of proof before they pay me. We dont have any cases in our area so its less believable too

do some coughing on the phone. That may not be the corona but you still got to self isolate if you have a cough.
