All supermarkets planning on employing over 50k staff
With Tesco being the biggest at 20k
They are all looking for part time and full time staff for in store and at distribution centres to help get the stock to the store and on shelves quicker and have a cleaner working place with a lot being employed on the spot. Lidl have announce 2,500 4 weeks jobs with everyone being employed on the spot and rest to start immediately |
Only temporary though so if the virus clears up quite quickly as it has in china they will be in short lived. Many will be told there is nothing for them after 12 weeks.

Aren't they going to target people who are out of work due the virus like those in the travel industry, great stop gap until the planes start moving again

Supermarkets are going to need increased staff for online ordering for many months though, I'd guess. They also need more delivery capacity - drivers shouldn't be an issue but they need a lot more vans. |
Aldi are offering 10hr monthly rolling contracts for the RDCs.
You won’t work just 10hrs but they’re the contracted hours so when everything calms down it’s either welcome aboard for the select few and goodbye for the rest. |
From what I can gather it’s drivers they should be hiring ... doesn’t matter how much stuff is in the warehouses or how many shop assistants there are .. the drivers are dropping like flies

The drivers only drive the stock to the stores. Without the warehouse staff there wouldn’t be trailers to be delivered.
