Have those who run the honours system been inconsistent.

Rushdie's gets a knighthood inspite of anger from the Muslim world and yet when it came to professor Colin Blakemore the people running the system thought his work in animal experiments was to controversial

Does this not sound like those in charge of the honours system are being inconsistent?

Are the powers that be ever consistent.!!!

I suppose it depend on which controversy is either in or out of fashion at any one time.............

Some would say that Rushdie is one of the best living authors? Others would say he is a waste of space.

We forget about the little people because we do not know who they are?

For the sake of his personal safety I am surprised they opened up an old wound for fanatics to jump on....As for the comment made by a Pakistani minister. That should be condemned at united nations level.

^^ It was certainly a bold move to honour Rushdie. I believe that it could backfire a lot more than it has so far. However, if it had been my decision I honestly don't know what I would do, even if I was certain that he deserved it.

Don't get me wrong ,I hate the suppression of free speech and action, but think lives are more valuable than honours. Shamefully perhaps, but I would have probably tried to find a way out of honouring Rushdie .

In any event the honours system is certainly inconsistent because Ryan Giggs was honoured and David Beckham wasn't.lol

I would have difficulty caring less who gets angered by our country's own internal systems when they affect only the people of this country, nor will I be dictated to by some murdering scumbag hiding in a cave somewhere.
