Netherlands: had been a forest fire raging here near Limburg
Some 4,200 people living in the Limburg village of Herkenbosch were evacuated from their homes on Tuesday night due to smoke from a major heath fire.
The fire in the De Meinweg national park broke out on Monday but the long period of dry weather and the wind have made it impossible to get under control. Local officials ordered the evacuation, which included two nursing homes, because of the large amount of smoke the fire generated and the high concentration of carbon monoxide. Residents were told to go and stay with family and friends or were put up in 16 different sports halls in the region, news website Nu.nl reported. Officials will decide later on Wednesday when it is safe for them to return to their homes. There is no danger that the flames will reach the village, officials said. Deurne A further 50 homes have been evacuated close to the Peel nature reserve east of Eindhoven, where fire officers have also been fighting a blaze since Monday. Helicopters and the army have been drafted in to help put out the blaze, but officials say it will be the end of Wednesday at least before that fire has been brought under control. https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2020/0...hit-the-south/ update on this just now in breakfast news here: most flames have gone out after long hard work by firefighters, now they are just spraying with water extra since the surface still remains hot, and they don't want it to re-ignite or anything |
Gosh Nicky that is last last thing needed at this time , you must all be very thankful to your firefighters for getting it inder control so quickly.

timing is very horrible now this combined with coronacrisis (also staying at other family kinda breaks the ''no visit by too many people'' rule but i guess if you got nowhere else to go there can be a exception in scenario's like this one |
Being evacuated from your home at this point in time would be the worst, good to hear its under control
|
the very dry and warm weather right now also isn't helping
wish it would rain a lot soon, just to make ground over there quite wet :( i can even smell the smoke of that here in eindhoven :worry: |
the fire has been declared under control, people can slowly go home now
