The Good Thing is
you do not have to give a Name
just the post code

James 05-05-2020 04:32 AM

Up to yesterday I was if two minds due to privacy but as no personal details are held then yes I will

Thank you

I am a little unsure. I am a little dubious about the privacy side of it. They will be able to trace it back to you, through IP address, IMEI numbers on your phone etc. It feels all very Big Brother.

You mean like all the data the police can get on you or your mobile supplier has already?

Zizu 05-05-2020 09:17 AM

In voted yes .. just in case it turns out to be a game changer ... plus I don’t really care if anyone is following my movements.. I’ve simply nothing to hide ..

I guess there will be thousands who are messing around without their partners knowing who may be wary though ..

I’m probably one of the few who like the idea of millions of CCTV cameras everywhere

No, i won't. I live out in the sticks and I don't use public transport, I will continue to have food delivered at my door. I don't see a need for it at the moment

Withano 05-05-2020 10:43 AM

No. Cummings mate is collecting the profit from it. Don’t trust them at all not to misuse my data. I’d think twice if the money was going somewhere else but tories gotta Tory so no

Denver 05-05-2020 11:06 AM

It should be compulsory tbh

Babayaro. 05-05-2020 11:07 AM

can you send nudes on it?

JerseyWins 05-05-2020 02:30 PM

What does it do?

if someone tests positive for covid and you had close contact with them in the recent past it will ping an sms at you telling you to self isolate

Nicky91 05-05-2020 03:55 PM

if it becomes available here in Netherlands

my answer is NO ******* thank you, i care about my privacy more, and i myself am Always at home anyway

:idc:

this whole app means you lose your privacy completely, they know everytime where you are, what you do, you see if people with covid are near you but there are more negatives than good things around this app

MTVN 05-05-2020 04:27 PM

I'm pretty confident it is no bigger threat to privacy than almost every other app that seeks access to your contacts, files, location, wants to link to your social media account etc

By all intents and purposes its gonna be really important to getting back to normal life that the majority of people use this app, makes me despair that people wouldn't use it out of a dislike of the Tory party

I'll use it, but it's not really about tories per se. Would be more about the people running the app, which is cummings's mate with heavy links to vote leave, which was known to wildly abuse private data.

I do think the app can't be the only strategy though, as S.korea have shown the best results for contact tracing, and only 20-25% used their equivalent app.

caprimint 05-05-2020 04:32 PM

Nope, no need for it

What's the source for the Cummings thing? My understanding is that the NHS themselves have developed the app alongside Oxford University researchers and with the help of several tech firms

Developed by NHSX, a governmental dept, full of former Cambridge Analytica employees

Also Matt, have a read through this twitter thread; provides some more interesting background on those working behind the scenes.
