Matt Hancock says cancel Summer holidays abroad

In all seriousness is anyone contemplating one?

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/coron...cid=spartandhp

People should prepare to cancel their summer holidays, Matt Hancock has warned, saying: “I think that’s a reality of life.”
Asked if summer would be effectively “cancelled” for the first time since the Second World War, the health secretary replied: “I think that’s likely to be the case.”
“It’s unlikely that big lavish international holidays are going to be possible for this summer,” he told ITV’s This Morning programme.

You can bet some people would have wanted to go Cherie,I think this from Matt Hancock is a good idea, a missed summer is better than a missed relative or friend.

yes totally agree

our PM Rutte had said about this, holidays abroad advised not to because you don't know how severe corona lockdown measures are in the country of your destinations, and if you'll be trapped there for a much longer than wanted period of time

he also said here holidays in own country is allowed as long as we stick to the social distancing rule, avoid crowded areas but for the rest we are allowed to have ''fun''

Camping sites are going to be popular I think

I had Malta booked for July but I accepted pretty early on that I wouldn’t be going

Cal. 12-05-2020 12:57 PM

Me and my friends have literally been trying to cancel ours for weeks/months. Some travel companies are being deliberately awkward.

smudgie 12-05-2020 12:57 PM

Aren’t we banned from flying into most countries from the UK already?

My family, that includes my wife and kids, both of my sisters and husbands and kids and my mum and dad have a holiday planned in a house in the yorkshire dales to celebrate my dads retirement. This is in July.

I know that they are saying no holidays abroad but where do I stand with this holiday?

Id love it if we were able to go, going so long without seeing them all properly since lockdown, none of them been able to see or hold our new baby, and then my dad retiring, it is something we all need just one whole week if celebration together but I know its very very likely not happening now!

I think bans will gradually be eased from July onwards, you can fly to France and Ireland if you wish!

It will depend on the easing of restrictions, currently you are not allowed to visit family outside your household in an enclosed environment, if they do the bubble thing where two families or 3 families can meet which you would hope would be in place by July, I guess it also depends on your Mum and Dads age though it sounds like they are under 70 so that is not an issue

As it's not time specific just move it back a free months to be sure it goes ahead

Spain have already said they will only have resident tourists this summer and since no one can go abroad that will help with numbers, same with every country really there will be a boost to staycations

well you wont have totally self isolated as someone must have been shopping at some point? anyway you will have to wait and see but I expect by then you will be able to interact with members of your family, given they are saying by 4th July it is likely some bars and restaurants can open, IF the R stays low
