Tell me that in 2 years when you're taking your sega into CEX to trade up to the ps5!

*thinks fondly about his megadrive before many posters were born

Megadrive > PlayStation

It literally can't be unless the company has been taken over by someone who wants to deliberately crash it into the ground. Nintendo has already had to effectively shift entirely into the handheld market to continue to thrive as a "+1" console. Most people who have a Switch also have another console.

There's no room in the market for a third home console alongside PS and Xbox. Multiplatform devs don't want the extra work either. It would flop worse than the Dreamcast - and Sega was lucky to survive that in the first place!

Stupid if true

Rumours were circulating that the xbox could be released with a sega logo slapped on in japan to help with their diminishing sales

So is the big news that Microsoft have bought Sega?

Not “bought” I don’t think. More of a collaboration (but I could be completely wrong). I’d assume that MS would either be paying to use Sega’s name or Sega would actually be involved.

I thought Nintendo bought Sega years back?

Could be an exchange of using the name for heavily promoted console exclusives from Sega?

Not souljaboy again

A possibility! I think it’s a smart move if done right - Xbox never took off in Japan and Sega was (mostly) extremely popular.

This looks interesting, I’ll give it a read later

It'll be a very tough sell I think, Sony and Nintendo have the market pretty well saturated in Japan. I think they'd need Sega to be putting out some (very good) exclusives to tempt people into buying an Xbox as a second console. I highly doubt they'd manage to break Sony's grip.

Could it be a retro console that would have the ability to provide the means to play every Sega game ever made that was on a Sega console platform (Master System, Genesis + the add ons, handhelds, Saturn and Dreamcast?)

This would be ideal. The Saturn and Dreamcast in particular are both great consoles with a great library of games between them.

This rumour pops up every few years, it'll never happen outside of mini retro console releases.

Sega couldn't keep up with the console race and they've secured themselves a solid position as a third party developer and distributor. They will never make a new console now if they were booted out of the race years ago. They don't have the capital to create a next or even current gen console.

Right but that's why there might be scope for Microsoft buying the rights to be "The Sega Console" for its Japan release. It would just be an Zbox, but with an "Xbox SEGA" slapped on the side.

That would in theory benefit both companies BUT I do think the issue would be that Mikeysoft would probably expect next gen Sega games to be Xbox exclusives and that would be a very bad move for Sega, especially considering that there's no real question that PS5 will have a higher market share again, and especially so in Japan.

Honestly the Xbone struggled massively this gen, and that's after the overwhelming success of the 360. I think they really need to pull something out of the bag this time round or it might be the last Xbox...

The PS5 won on the strength of it's exclusives, Sony managed to turn almost over one of their exclusives into an event while X1's few exclusives passed with little fanfare in comparison.

If Microsoft want to compete, they need a strong library of exclusives.

Jake. 03-06-2020 07:47 AM

So they’ve unveiled four micro game gear consoles with just four games on each with 1.5 inch screens and they equate to fifty pounds each :skull:

But most are saying that these aren’t the “big reveal” we’re expecting tomorrow

user104658 03-06-2020 11:36 AM

1.5" screen? how is that even useable
