By the point of confronting Nasty Nick they were probably egged on by producers and given pointers about the outside world being "gripped".

I have to disagree, I find it interesting and to be honest most TV shows now are either replays of 90s/ early 2000s or they are trying to emulate that. Big brother became too big for its boots with fake wannabe people chasing a magazine deal.
