The calibre of Celebrities on Channel 4 compared to Channel 5
Considering CBB on Channel 4 and CBB on Channel 5, which era of CBB provided us with better Celebrities?
Also, if CBB is indeed brought back to Channel 4/E4 like headlines and rumours suggest, do we think the revival will provide us with great Celebrities? |
I think C4 genuinely produced more ‘famous’ celebrities. but C5 provided more celebrities of entertainment value.
C4 only produced two amazing CBB seasons anyway (3 &4), granted they had a shorter number of seasons though with C5 pulling out two every year. |

Ch4 had more of a wow factor especially when they had people like Dennis Rodman who was still a massive name when he went in
|
Honestly don’t know how you can tell them apart but I’d say C5 had bigger celebs and better series
Gary Busey, Kirsty Ally, Tara Reid, Stormy (had she gone in), Julian Clary, Julie Goodyear They definitely had bigger nobodies, but overall I’d say they had better known housemates |

C4 got two Jacksons and Tina Malone so

I think they were about the same caliber mostly.
Don't forget C4 had lots of irrelevants and/or people who just became big because of the show. It might have given us Dennis, Jodie, Stephen and La Toya but it also gave us the likes of Donny Tourette and Maggot so~ C5 gave us a few duds here and then but we also got Gemma, Gary, Janice and Anne Widdecombe who were all huge names for the house. |
Donny Tourette and Maggot are "of their time" minor celebs like Cheryl Fergison, who vanished pretty quickly once their 5 mins ended. At least they were famous for something other than a tenuous connection to another celeb.
And in terms of "cousin of x" and "slept with y" celebs C5 had far more. |
Ch5 gave us someone who was kidnapped, someone who robbed money 20 years ago, Someone who cried and sat down during a performance on the X Factor, A prostitute and a dozen Americans nobody had ever heard of so while they did get some big names they also scraped the barrel a lot
|
Also CH4 always go a bit left feild on all their Celeb RTV shows so atleast they stuck to a template where as CH5 didnt really know what they was doing and signed up the first person to say yes rather then properly scout for celebs
|
My main issue with most of CH5’s castings was the reliance on other reality show “celebs” (mainly from MTV). CBB18 for example was honestly horrific.
|
All the American RTV contestants didnt even have their shows aired in the UK either so they were just random signings to start with

Can we also remember they managed to get Kenzie while he was still getting top 10 hits, Ch5 could never
|
I suppose the one thing in C5's defence is that it was more the sign of the times. Reality TV was just everywhere by that point and most of the gossip rag "celebs" came from them.
Whereas back in 2005/2006 there wasn't such an extensive list of RTV people to choose from for C4, and the vast majority of what there was would've been people originally from BB anyway. By the time C5 took over the world and his wife were doing one reality TV show or another. |

Youre kidding yourself if you think CH5 didn't have amazing celeb housemates.
CBB10 I couldn't believe the people they got for it. REAL household names Julian, Julia, Coleen, Martin, Cheryl 5 also gave us Kirsty Alley, Michael Madsen, Leslie Jordan, Gary Busey, Janice Dickinson, Tara Reid. I was always so so impressed with their line ups, more than I ever was with channel 4 |
I think you have to consider that CBB on 4 had live feeds.
That would have put a lot of people off taking part. |
