Hundreds of elephants found dead in Botswana

[Dr Niall McCann said colleagues in the
southern African country had spotted
more than 350 elephant carcasses in the Okavango Delta
since the start of May.
No one knows why the animals are dying,
with lab results on samples still weeks away,
according to the government.
Botswana is home to a third of Africa's
declining elephant population.]

Not poachers
as their tusks are still in their dead bodies,
Real sad, maybe something in the water?

Very sad, I hope they find out why so they can stop it from happening again

joeysteele 02-07-2020 05:41 PM

This is horrible.
I hate to think of the suffering too.

...sadly because of COVID-19 restrictions with the testing, the result will not be known for a few weeks...they’ve fallen face down as if slumping suddenly../...a very sudden death...

"This is totally unprecedented in terms of numbers of elephants dying in a single event unrelated to drought," conservation biologist Niall McCann, director of National Park Rescue, told the BBC, explaining disease has yet to be ruled out as a cause.

"Yes, it is a conservation disaster - but it also has the potential to be a public health crisis."

We need answers not just for the sake of the other elephants, but to ensure we're protected, too.

...so, so sad...2020 is becoming horrific in so many ways...

Horrible news, sometimes it feels theres nothing good happening anywhere :(

I was reading a story on this earlier that apparently some poachers are known to use cyanide to poison the elephants. It’s actually so sad, elephants are such beautiful animals :(
