Looks like another of Black Mirrors episodes is coming true, Hated in the Nation :skull:

Crimson Dynamo 09-07-2020 01:26 PM

Can you imagine doing the black man's cock episode today?

Back then we saw what the writer was saying but today after some Twitter outrage, fear of blame, it would be pulled

As it were

Not really sure about that. The jokes were never about the minorities, but always about the reactions and attitudes of others towards them. Derick would never be made these days, but I think the office will remain timeless.

I thought that was more about mocking the person who some might dub as a "Karen" who went blubbing to management, rather than using the black man's willy thing as something we're meant to find funny?

Derick was only made a few years ago though , what would be seen as offensive today about it ? .

And Afterlife seems to of done well too .

Ricky playing someone with learning difficulties would be problematic.

The fact a (not sure if call him black but let's say not white) guy laughed David Brent thought bought him immunity to use a racial stereotype for amusement in the office environment. In fact this was explained to him by his woman boss but it went right over his head:joker:

Hmm but Derek is a likable character . What about Afterlife dealing with death and even suicide . I haven't seen the second series yet .

Oh god that word, where the **** did that spring from all of a sudden too? Did you read about that actress from Killing Eve, is apparently being "cancelled" for possibly dating a republican ****ing hell.

It's not the subject that's the problem, nor the likeability of those represented, the issue, would be a character with learning and physical disabilities being played by a non-mental.

Wait, what? :joker:

Why would anyone even care about that? Some people have so few problems in their life, they actually get worked up about where someone's spouse leaves a pencil mark once every few years?

Bloody hell ...

I don't know if it's lockdown getting to people, but the moment anyone gets that wound up over literally nothing, they should go outside for some fresh air.

...’people don’t want to discuss now, they just want to win..’...I think has much truth in it...

But you can't say that , surely if it's portrayed without mocking the disability itself then it shouldn't be a problem ?.

I know it's an old movie but Rain man is one of Dustin Hoffman's best performances .

It's not a problem for me. I thought derick was a really touching show, but I just gave an opinion on why I thought it wouldn't be given the green light today, I don't get to make the decisions.

A simpler word for cancel culture is 'bullying'.

Liam- 09-07-2020 04:54 PM

Cancel culture isn’t a thing
