This thread has inspired me to visit Manchester. Is the centre currently in lockdown?

Everywhere is pretty much open. We just can't visit each other's houses or gardens. Anywhere you can spend money is open

Bitch maybe if you replied to my email straight away it woulda been me :fist:

It might not seem fair to people searching for a home, but when it comes to finding a renter the ball really is in the court of the owners/agency. They don't have any rush at all because chances are, someone's moving in.

Actually on Watchdog earlier there was some good advice, make sure your deposit is going into a government backed scheme, not into the hands of an unscrupulous landlord :fist:

It's a requirement now I believe, they can get fairly large fines if it's not in a deposit scheme. When we moved houses down in England (10 years ago, not long after my eldest was born) the landlord tried to keep nearly 3/4 of the deposit. When I asked about what scheme it was in he said it wasn't in one as it was a "bond, not a deposit" :hehe: so I mentioned that I'd see if the local council agreed on that definition. He turned up at our new place that evening with the whole deposit in cash and "£20 as a present for the baby" :joker:.

Toy Soldier 12-08-2020 08:58 PM

WHICH almost made up for my University landlord, who (pre deposit scheme) kept our entire deposit (£1400 between 4 of us) citing a tonne of "cleaning and damages charges" despite us spending days cleaning the place before we left. Shouldn't have bothered. He was notorious for that though - he owned dozens of student properties, great landlord & nice as pie while you were in one of his houses - dodgy bastard as soon as you moved out.
