Killing squirrels
How do you feel on the subject of killing squirrels?
Been working for someone who has a massive garden with river frontage and they have a humane squirrel killer, basically the squirrel puts its head in to chew bait and a bolt shoots into its brain. How do you view squirrels? As tree vermin or harmless animals. |
I wouldn't be a fan of killing squirrels
|
Only kill things if you're going to eat them.
|
Squirrels are adorable, I get lots in my garden and I welcome them.
What harm do they cause that they should be killed? |
I see them as harmless and cute, I gets lots in my garden even got one living in my loft and he is called Henry.
|
I've heard all the claims of how much damage they do, and if that's really an excuse to kill them, maybe we should start culling humans because no one's caused more damage than we have.
I worry about people who want to kill stuff, especially people who dress up in ridiculous tweeds and hats and spend all day blowing birds out of the sky. I mean.... why? What pleasure can it bring you unless you're some kind of twisted sicko? |
...I guess that many animals would think that humans are ‘vermin’ in the damage they have caused in their time...and we would hate the thought of a bolt being shot into our brain and rightly so, obviously...so no, totally no...

I'm not really a fan of killing anything. I always relocate spiders and flies etc outside if I find them indoors, apart from wasps because fcuk wasps, but I do remember as a kid, my da was having trouble with squirrels in the attic, and they'd screwed loads of wiring up and cost him a chunk of money, so he turned into a mix of Elmer Fudd meets Isis. He set cage traps and caught a few of them, but then drowned them together in a row in a water feature we had in the garden, and then left them on display for a couple of days.
I have to say, we didn't have any problems with squirrels again, but he did go on to start murdering prostitutes not long after, so a bit of a mixed bag. |
Kill the grey German ones so the cute small red ones can make a comeback please
|
I'm not in favour of killing wildlife at all.
Everything having life has a right to live. |
I quite like them but they do cause a lot of damage to trees and wildlife and have basically wiped out red squirrels in most of the UK now:

Was you actually expecting a debate on this? Like expecting anybody to strongly agree with killing squirrels? Why?

It's illegal to kill red squirrels in Scotland so bit of a moot point really; you couldn't set up fatal squirrel traps for greys without endangering reds, thus, they're not legal.

I only ever seen a red squirrel at a college and the tres they live in, netted so they can’t leave and animals can’t get them. |

And don’t even get me started on making animals extinct |

they have as much right to be on the planet as any other animal |

What kind of arsehole places deadly squirrel traps in their garden? There's so many different deterrents to keep squirrels out of your garden that killing them is just unnecessary and cruel.
|
i like squirrels and would never harm them but grey squirrels are officially designated as vermin so they will be targeted
|
Squirrels are rats with fluffy tails....horrible things. I couldn't ever harm one but I had to close my bird feeders as the squirrels were nicking all the feed and chasing the little birds off. The have regular run ins with the magpies in my garden
