Working from home

...I'm supposed to be doing it right now, and so far I have:

1) replied to two emails

2) ranted about misogyny on here

3) had a debate with some old school friends on WhatsApp about whether "Into The Unknown" or "Let It Go" is the objectively better song, which is apparently what happens when you become a dad.

My question is, how do I motivate myself to do any actual work? :fist:

Niamh. 08-09-2020 09:35 AM

Set yourself an amount of time to do actual work and then reward yourself with 15mins of stupid internet stuff

Ammi 08-09-2020 09:36 AM

...go for a walk/run/cycle etc is what I would do, to get my focus....and try to think about work related stuff while you’re out... so that you’re quite eager to apply yourself when you get back home...

Is 5 mins work/15 mins stupid internet an acceptable ratio though.

Ammi 08-09-2020 09:37 AM

...or what Niamh said, I guess you know what would most work for you, we all have different ways...

...or you could be Boris for the day and GET IT DONE...

Well that's what I would do :hehe:

Iv done my washing and hung it out, cleaned the kitchen, hoovered downstairs, took the dog out and watched a quick video of cockpit recordings before plane crashes and everyone dies.

and wrapped 8 tricky parcels

But the way i work it is i know exactly what I have to get done today by 7pm and so as long as it gets done i can do things like report lots of people on tibb for rule breaks and clear up after the TL etc

:spin:

I don't want to raise their expectations. I'd try going for quality over quantity but the quality of my work is always impeccable already :bawling:. GAWD this is such a tough time.

...it’s one of those surveys like Niamh did..

...females work from home better then males because....is it...

...A, B, C ..etc, I’m no good at that stuff...

...yeah, I think I’ll go D actually...them males might have been better at that stuff, had they respected their mother in law more, maybe...?...mother in laws have such wisdom in many things, including working from home stuff etc...we females were listening very carefully at the time and absorbing it all...obviously why we’re so much better...8/10 cool cats said so...

I actually enjoy it very much because I don't have all the noisy stuff (and by stuff I mean PEOPLE) who keep interrupting me (being a manager doesn't help though).

I try to maintain a routine of taking a shower in the morning and not randomly at 2pm, and do the toughest work first, then after I am more free to go on Tibb or random stuff. That might help you.

Yeah I do that too. Reminds me of my Uni days when I was saying "OK 15 more minutes on Facebook then I start studying at 6pm"...."oh look it's 6:05pm, looks like I will try again at 7pm" :joker:

...school/uni days are a good example because it’s similar to revision and revision ‘techniques’, I think...breaks are really essential as well, it’s just trying not to have those breaks extended to the whole day...but then if that happens, we’ll just know that we’ll have to work in the evening in ‘our own time’ so that’s an incentive to keep to the work schedule...

Or I will set myself a certain task to finish and then once it's finished I'll give myself a few minutes on stupid stuff

Just an answer to one of your problems.

Neither into the unknown or let it go....show yourself is the go to song.

UserSince2005 08-09-2020 10:15 AM

I'm going in for a meeting this afternoon, spending the morning trying on clothes in the mirror.

joeysteele 08-09-2020 10:20 AM

I've actually found I've prepared more and better too being at home.
Still operating advisedly to those I need to.

Having more time for actual work related stuff than the travelling I usually have to waste time on driving here, there and everywhere almost.

Beso 08-09-2020 10:23 AM

Do it in the nude, spice it up a bit to make it not feel like work..maybe pop some photos of your work mates near the laptop as well.

But Ammi I didn't do any revision when I was at school and I did all of my Uni assignments by camping out in the IT suites with a 6 pack of red bull the night before they were due, specifically because I never got anything done at home!! I did a 5000 word comparative literature analysis in one jittery 9 hour all nighter :bawling:

I just realised I posted this in SD, it was meant to be general chat. Old habits eh.
