here we go...sould we join the euro??

why should we give up thousands of years of solidarity for a silly thing like this?

if its better to have one currency then get rid of all currencies and use on global one for the world.

Not strictly true cc10

The Dutch navy led by Admiraal M De Ruyter sailed up the Medway in 1667 and captured the Isle of Sheppey, sank the Kings fleet and destroyed the docks at Chatham.

As for the Euro, I know it's very emotive, but I have been won over by common sense, and being married to a Dutchman

Facts:

Money was developed as a form of making trade easier

We started with barter, and moved on.

In some areas, sea shells were currency

They moved on.

We rely on international trade to survive.

When I drove to Italy in 2000, I had to have pounds, French francs and Italian lire.

I had to work out what was what all the way, and despite my best efforts was left with odds and sods of change.

Last year I was supposed to go to Dublin, so I got some Euro's. This ferry was cancelled, so I didn't go.

Two weeks later I went to Holland and used the Euro's

In September I went to Spain, and used my left over coins.

I still have some Euro's, and I am keeping them til my next journey.

Listen, everyone went ballistic when we lost 12 pennies to the pound, threepenny bits, farthings, 2/6 coins etc. Now it's no bother.

The real thing that wipes out our individuality as a nation are companies like McDonalds, and cities all over the world with the same shops.

We don't need coins to remain British.

Yes, as long as people aren't going to get short-changed with their bank accounts when it changes over (that's if we are changing to single currency). Currency does not make a country - the people and places do. Also there won't be any hassle changing money when you go on holiday in Europe.

There isn't a "not yet" option in the vote, otherwise that would have been my choice.

If Gordon Brown says the economic and social conditions are not right at the moment, then that's good enough for me!

I can remember having problems trying to spend a Scottish pound note in England just a few years ago. I can remember, in Liverpool Market, being offered 19/6 for it. I was black affronted.

No! Bend over to them crazy europeans? Our grandfathers did not fight a war so our goverment could give up power... If we have the euro then we are sleepwalking into a european state where we dont elect our goverment.

My god,old thread. Has it been 5 years since the euro? I think its good you kept the sterling, its one of the main currencies of the world. The euro is really handy though, especially when going away(well except to the UK).

Thats it, thats why the uk has to stay strong! We give up the pound then its a slippery slope to britain being a poor country in europe... Jobs will be cut and our goverment would be nothing more than puppets to a unelected european goverment! And our ties with america would be weakend... Which we should never let happen.
