Boycott Mulan?
It’s not a movie I would rush to watch anyway
Disney released its live-action remake of Mulan on its streaming platform Disney+ last Friday, Disney filmed Mulan in China's Xinjiang Province, where an estimated one million Uighurs are being held in concentration camps. When the film was released on Friday, viewers noticed its credits thanked eight government organizations in China's Xinjiang Province, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Chinese government has detained what the New York Times reports as "millions or more of largely Muslim minority groups in indoctrination camps" inside the province. One of those groups is the Uighurs, a mostly Muslim people whose majority live in Xinjiang. China says defines these camps as "re-education camps" that exist "to improve security," according to the BCC, but reports of human rights abuses inside the camps include forced labor, forced sterilization and abortions, and indoctrination.but in the last year, the film has weathered a string of controversies relating to Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement and China's imprisonment of the Uighur people in concentration camps in the Xinjiang Province. https://www.elle.com/culture/movies-...sts-explained/ |

Even before the latest stuff came to light I questioned the point in watching it - the songs, Mushu, the hot guy, and the awesome villain are all removed! They're everything that made the original Disney movie good
But yeah, like I said in another thread (can't remember what), I have no idea why the world at large is ignoring China's actions. I mean shiiiit, a world war was caused by similar behaviour! |
If anyone feels like they need to watch it, I'd suggest they find "alternative" means to do so, Disney shouldn't be encouraged to keep churning out crappy remakes. If anyone wants help with that, slide into my DMs, I got it...

Imo the reason to boycott watching the film due to the location on human rights grounds is justified. |
If you're going to watch it, watch it in a way that doesn't benefit Disney.

don't bring geopolitical views into the world of cinema, end of story
movies are always meant for our good light fun and entertainment and i agree with Withano, me and my dad also download movies illegally (became more difficult than before we start to notice but still doable at least if we can get good 1080p versions and no cam versions since they have bad video quality) |
They've thanked the government in the credits who gave them permission to film where they did?
Am I missing something? |
