Same

Kind of makes my decision to get PS5 for Christmas much easier (if they are some in stock)

The other PS5 showcase didn’t excite me but this one has

I'm not sure I like the look of this at all, it looks like a fun Witcher clone (I legitimately thought that the castle they were in for most of the trailer was the Red Baron's keep) but it looks a bit too far removed from what FF is.

Scarlett. 16-09-2020 09:27 PM

I mean, FF is vastly different game to game

VII was a cyberpunk/fantasy world
VIII was an Academy story with a witch
IX was a medieval story with airships and black mages
X was a Japanese inspired fairy tale story with underwater football
XII was a political medieval story with magitek
XIII was a sci-fi story mixed with fate/destiny
XIV is a fantasy/political/sci-fi story
XV was a modern era story about gods

Toy Soldier 16-09-2020 11:26 PM

The combat looks excellent and that will be - I imagine - pretty early stuff (I'm also pretty sure a lot of the voice acting there is tough draft). Looks like elements of both XV and VII Remake in the mechanics and I'm very hopeful that they've finally nailed it down - they've been getting so close.

I wouldn't use it as a reason to get a PS5 at launch (I mean, I will be getting one as close to launch as possible anyway, but just saying I wouldn't use this as the reason) because I think it's very unlikely we'll see it before the end of 2022, maybe even into 2023.

Scarlett. 17-09-2020 12:58 AM

The combat is being worked on by the designer of the DMC5 and Dragons Dogma combat, so I think they might nail it this time around.

The dev team this time around seems super competant too, the team is for the most part the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward team and has been working on the game since 2015. Yoshi-P (The Producer of XVI, and director and producer of XIV) says there may be a bit of a wait still though, I can't forsee this becoming another Versus at least xD

Our next big reveal will be next year

And every Final Fantasy game, even without knowing it's an FF game, and despite the disparate settings and styles, is noticeable as an FF game. Until I saw a chocobo, I didn't realise this was an FF game at all, which isn't a bad thing in itself but....

It looks too much like it's set in the Witcher's world and chocobos and Summons and Dragoons just clashed horribly with the more realistic looking medieval world that they showed off in that trailer. It looks bizarre, and once again, SE is following instead of leading.

I'm hoping to be impressed down the line but that trailer left me cold, really. Witcher's world, DMC's gameplay, what is left that is truly FF?

Going off of SE's previous release patterns, I wouldn't expect this until VII Remake is completely in the can. XV didn't come out until after the XIII sequels were wrapped up, KH3 disappeared until after SE fixed XV and VII went unheard of for years until after KH3 released.

My guess is that we probably won't see much of it until 2024 since SE loves to announce their RPGs (or action game, in this case) early and then stick them on the backburner for at least a good five years while they clear their table of their current big project.

It is the first trailer, I imagine there is much more to the world, more fantastical areas and such

I dunno, it feels like SE are chasing trends with this one. I hope to be wrong but I'm just not excited about this one.

I think the problem from a visual perspective is that you've got two distinct styles, you've got a muted colour palette mixed with a distinct western visual style and then Shiva shows up looking like an brightly coloured anime girl and it just doesn't mesh together. I felt like that trailer was at odds with itself.

This is concept art for the game, looks very FF

Tom4784 17-09-2020 01:08 PM

We'll see, from the actual footage we saw though, it looks like the Witcher with DMC gameplay.

Confirmed to have the provisional rating of 18

Website launched with lots of info about the world... and Clive!

It's sounding a lot like a medieval version of Type 0, I'm intrigued but the Witcher inspirations will be a concern until we have a full breakdown of the gameplay.
