Shouts of ‘light them up’/8 police officers doused in petrol after motorbike chase...
 

...this is so horrendous and terrifying, it’s hard to find words for this type of horrific ‘pack’...those poor police officers, how will they ever face attending any similar type of duties again...

A crowd shouted “light them up” after eight police officers were doused in petrol following a motorbike chase.

The officers were covered in fuel as they made an arrest on the Ward Close estate in Basildon, Essex, last May.

They recalled the horrifying incident for BBC One documentary Critical Incident, which was broadcast on Monday evening.

Officers had been in pursuit of a motorbike which was being ridden dangerously in nearby Canvey Island.


After following the rider for eight miles, accompanied by a police helicopter, they attempted to make an arrest in Basildon which attracted a large crowd.

One woman threatened officers with a hammer before a man threw petrol over them.

The officers said they heard people in the crowd shout, “Who’s got matches?” and “light them up”.

Two of the officers were treated in hospital after ingesting fuel in the incident and firefighters had to wash petrol out of their eyes.

A total of 90 officers arrived at the scene to aid their colleagues.

PC Andrew Bird said: “Out of the corner of my eye I saw a gentleman appear from down one of the alleyways. He was just sprinting full speed towards where we were.”

That's what I thought actually....a taser will spark and that would have been all that's needed.

...yeah, I think they did, TS...that’s how it looks from that little bit of video we have, anyway...

...actually, the tasers were used before the dousing with petrol is what the video shows...after the dousing...?...two officers went forward to him, one with a baton and one with a pepper spray.../...not tasers though...

...by the by, this happened at the beginning of May...it’s being highlighted as current ‘news’ as it were, because it’s being shown as part of a TV programme...

vile youth, can imagine that ****** also having made a selfie after that, and posting it on social media for likes :yuk:

That makes more sense because a taser spark would DEFINITELY light petrol fumes! :umm2: imagine if no one was actually going to do it but then they blew themselves up with a taser.
