Anne Hegerty under fire after branding BTS a ''little boyband''
The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has come under fire from BTS fans after branding the group ‘a little Korean boy band that’s fundamentally not important’.
The quizzer enraged the Army with her remark which was in response to the backlash The Economist senior editor Anne McElvoy had received for writing: ‘Please no’ following the news the band had delivered a message of hope at the 75th UN General Assembly. McElvoy later wrote: ‘My earlier tweet about BTS was in jest and I’m sorry it was taken the wrong way. Apologies.’ Weighing in on the frenzy, Anne then penned: ‘All this about a little Korean boy band that’s fundamentally not important?’ ‘Those boys made a number of people happy and loved when no one else could. Those boys brought smiles on the faces of millions of people. Those boys gave people HOPE. They are more than just a ++’. Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t mean that it’s not important to someone else…in this case, millions of people across generations, cultures and genders worldwide. ‘To dismiss them is to open yourself up to this type of scrutiny.’ Meanwhile, a third said: ‘@BTS_twt are not a little Korean boyband. They are world-renowned artists whose work brings comfort to many at a time of crisis when mental health issues are escalating. https://metro.co.uk/2020/09/24/the-c...tant-13323067/ sack this hag on The Chase pls |
They are just an insignificant boyband though? The only alright song is dynamite
|
to be fair they are all under 6ft
|
They’re no Westlife

The original comment was rude considering it was very noble of them to give a speech at the UN, it's not your atypical boyband remit.
This led to her comment, which is equally as dismissive, why are the views of young Koreans fundamentally not important? Irrespective of whether they are in a band or not. For me it is another example of privilege, and it begs the question who are fundamentally important? |
good luck to her going up against the bts stans :skull:

all of their work has been a success streaming wise and besides that they are THE number one globally well known boyband from south-korea, whom brings in billions for their music industry, and well respected by United Nations now as well (so basically also worthy for being called influencers more than any other youth ''influencer'' of today) |
I've only heard of them on tibb. Leave our governess alone. Xx
|
she speaks the truth
not even as good as One True Voice |
In the grand scheme of things, they're not especially significant. Plenty of "Internet people" have gone to speak at the UN. Good for them and all that, but they're nothing special.

Oh Nicky, you do make me laugh. She's gone from a vile old hag to a Queen in no time at all  You are entitled to your opinion but you need to own it and not change because people don't agree.

i am not a hardcore k-pop stan lol, glad i am not i admit
i do admire the guys of BTS, i mean they do a good job as inspiration for both young and old generations with their speeches they gave at UN assembly events the music is mostly not my cup of tea though, i understand why some call it overrated how kpop fandom hype it up too much Anne Hegerty is a nice lady, or at least i found her nice on IAC too, however if she knows nothing on this kpop group, don't say random vile things which can make you get hated by many in that fandom, do not want to see her get hurt like that kpop fandom knows about me i am not like them too hardcore btw |
The wording people use sometimes is hilarious. What she said wasn't 'vile' lol. People should stop tweeting if they're in the public eye, it's 2020 there is always something to offend someone!
