...following on from Michael, Jason and Freddy and the most scares that a character can give etc and a slight twist on best Christmas movies...


...which are your ‘go to’ Halloween movies...the one or ones that terrify you so much that you look forward to watching them year after year and again etc...

Is it weird to find Freddy, Michael Myers, Jason movies somewhat comforting? I mean none of them scare me now, they kinda remind me of better times actually :laugh:

A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3 is my favourite hands down. Though New Nightmare scared me as a kid.

As for films that actually scare me/have me feeling uneasy. Hellraiser II (the fully uncut version) is pretty terrifying.

Candyman is a good one too. Scream is a fun Halloween film, as is any Halloween film.

Part 3 Dream Warriors was my favourite too. We used to get stupidly stoned on a Friday then all set up camp and put it on....everyone knew it word for word "he wears a dirty brown hat, is horribly burned" etc....loved it.

One of the most quotable lines in any Freddy movies :laugh:

I love all of the old classics from the 70s and 80’s, slasher movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Prom Night etc. Carrie is great too and Salem’s Lot.

The Shining is a must also, the only movie that after many watches still gets under my skin so to speak. ‘Orrible.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is great for more of a fun twist to Halloween.

Zombies, monsters etc don’t do anything for me. But when it’s “possible”, like a maniac on the loose or someone hiding in your house - yeah I’m in. :omgno: :joker:

I wanna watch Cannibal Holocaust, not really Halloweeny, but i've heard/know it's utterly terrifying and an all round uncomfortable experience. I was working my way through the DDP list of banned films from the 80's. Some good, some ok, so some ridiculously (unintentionally) funny. How some of those films got banned i'll never know!

I had an ex who collected the Nasties pre-cert DPP list VHS films. Some sold for stupid money and pretty much all of them were rubbish :laugh: I didn't watch them all.....but the ones I saw were laughable rather than scarey.

Cannibal Holocaust is a well made movie and I honestly like the plot, it was ahead of it's time imo but I can't look past the animal killings personally it leaves me uneasy and I would never watch it again.

Wow, small world (being how rare that is), so did i! I had about £400 worth in the end, then sold them all on ebay when i moved house. I don't think i made a profit, but it fun was listing them all and watching people bid.

Do you remember the rarest title he had? Mine were never too rare, they ranged from the £10 to £60 mark. With the exception of this Dutch Porno/horror from 1981 i had that sold for £177. I got that in a bundle i brought on ebay for £120, so i got a great deal there.

Yeah that puts me off too honestly.

He had Mardi Gras Massacre which he paid £400 for and others around that price range. The most expensive one then that I can remember was Beast in Heat.....he had the original pre-cert sleeve but not the tape. That used to sell for well over £1k. He used to go to old video shops and house clearances looking for them. We split up and he sold the lot of his collection. He raised enough for a deposit on a new house :laugh:

Oh wow, he was the real deal then :laugh: Yeah those are titles i could only dreamed of owning! Good for him though. It's a very addictive 'hobby' lol.

I watch Halloween (1978) every Halloween night!

Halloween, while everything about it has become a cliche (in fairness, it's the godfather of a lot of horror tropes, not one that revelled in them), it's still a stone cold classic and a vitally important horror film in film history.

Nightmare 1 and 3 are good but I also have to give props for 2 which often gets a lot of undue hate due to how different it is. I have to give it props because it's actually an LGBT film masquerading as a horror, it is STEEPED in gay subtext and the fact that a huge horror film would follow itself up with an unabashedly gay sequel in the 80's no less, is remarkably ballsy.

hhhmmm I try to watch a different one every year for Halloween, it's hard to get a decent horror though.

Can i just say if people haven't seen Idle Hands (and I'm sure most of you won't have) I highly recommend it, it's the best worst horror-ish film ever :laugh:

Even though it's not a film, I'd totally recommend Haunting of Hill House on Netflix (and it's sequel series is coming next week!). It is, by far, my favourite Netflix series. It's just stunning.

Ohhh yes 100%, I can't wait for the new one to come out, I kind of wish they left it to come out later though so i could watch it Halloween night but I'm definitely going to have it all watched before then

Yeah part 2 is pretty underrated, certainly get's better with age. I feel like the 80's gay scene was just becoming a more mainstream thing when this film was released. It added a new element to the story, it's a lot more noticeable when you look for it, as it could be dismissed as 'cheesy' i guess. I always hag the hots for Jessie's ginger girl friend :love:

But yeah, great film actually. 1, 2 and 3 really are a cut above the rest when it comes to Freddy films. I have a soft spot for Freddy's Dead, not that it's a good film, but because my aunt had it on VHS and she would let us kids watch it, we only had one pair of 3D glasses so we would take turns using them through that 3D bit, rewinding, then playing again :laugh:

There is a version without the animal killings that is better but I still avoid it because I think it'd make me think about it even more and work out where the scenes would be
