5 welders from Doncaster jailed for 2 weeks in Isle of Man due to Covid

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mir...2-22788063.amp

They arrived to do some work and went to teach for dinner but were snitched on by a local and were sent straight to jail for 2 weeks.

I think that's very harsh and unnecessary, the rules were not as clear to them and it was a first offence now i can understand doing it for for repeat rule breakers but to give criminal records straight aways when politians around the UK are getting away scot free doing it is very wrong

[But the masks, compulsory in UK shops, ironically led to
their arrests for breaching island rules that key workers from
the mainland must stay in their accommodation unless at work.

While the Isle of Man is a Crown dependency and its citizens are British,
it is not in the UK and sets its own laws.]

They were not legal to go into a shop
and were warned that.

it's up to everyone to know the rules in force at the place they are visiting, ignorance is not an excuse

So your saying everyone who breaks the rules in this first time should be jailed? It pointless and money wasting

I agree
Its unfair especially when the likes of politicians and their relatives get away scot free. Sigh.

Also with it being a British Island it would be easy to think you wouldn't need to quarantine and the people who gave them the work should have told them, its an innocent mistake which a fine would have been the appropriate punishment

Absolutely. What purpose in jailing them. Really.

MTVN 04-10-2020 04:08 PM

They are covid free in the Isle of Man - no restrictions, no distancing, no masks etc - and want to stay that way

Liam- 04-10-2020 04:11 PM

At least they’re isolating now

Crimson Dynamo 04-10-2020 04:15 PM

No man is an island...

Cherie 04-10-2020 04:23 PM

The company who hired them should bear some responsibility how were they meant to eat if they had to stay in their accommodation

Nobody warned them then

bots 04-10-2020 04:39 PM

they have strict protocols to keep their covid status as it is. I have no sympathy for people not taking the time to understand what they need to do when visiting a location

Crimson Dynamo 04-10-2020 04:41 PM

hopefully these welders will stick together?

bots 04-10-2020 04:42 PM

hopefully it will have lit a torch on isle of man regulations

Denver 04-10-2020 04:43 PM

I cant at people getting happy at peoples lives being ruined over an innocent mistake that hurt nobody

They’re not children, they should be aware of the restriction of the places they go to

So if you popped to your local town next to you and they decided to arrest you and put you in prison you think its acceptable?

How are their lives ruined?

MTVN 04-10-2020 04:50 PM

There's a whole load of waffle in that article about how 'politicians have broken the rules' or 'don't know the rules' which is completely irrelevant as the IoM has a totally separate legal and political system to the UK

Well no, because I wouldn’t pop into the local town, but if I did, we all have the same restrictions, but people should except to have to follow the guidelines of the places they are going to
