The Vow (Docuseries about NXIVM)

Anyone watched this on HBO? As far as I know the leader was supposedly running a self help group but it was secretly some kind of sex cult with starvation diets, slavery and branding of female genitals with the leaders initials etc :/

From Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning directors Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer (The Great Hack, The Square,*Control Room) comes*The Vow, a documentary series following a number of people deeply involved in the self-improvement group NXIVM over the course of several years.
The series takes a deep, nuanced look at the organization faced with various charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, against its highest members – most notably founder Keith Raniere, who was convicted in June 2019 and is currently awaiting sentencing.
Amidst claims by NXIVM participants of both profound transformation and devastating abuse, the series, like Noujaim and Amer’s previous films, seeks to reveal the issues behind the headlines and explore the emotional toll of unfolding events on these individuals.

Was quite odd actually because I had actually been reading an article about the leader just before then I saw the advert for this series lol

I heard that the documentary is slow and it leaves out a tonne of information, I was interested in watching it before though. :(

So I've been watching this the past couple weeks, we cant binge because honestly its slow, dragged out and I would say the first half or more of the episodes were complete filler, I totally get that they wanted to give us a lot of information about everything but they could have easily fitted it in to 2 episodes...we have 2 (I think) left and it's only really started to get to the important points in the last episode we watched apart from...

Spoiler:

in one of the earlier episodes we see/hear some conversations about the branding and sex slave stuff which although horrific to happen to anyone it's very frustrating to watch how the woman involved completely ignored a lot of very obvious imo red flags

I also felt at times that even after everything that happened to them and came out about Keith some of them when talking still seemed to be 'in awe' of him, god knows why as to me he came across as a creepy little sleazeball from the start

Is NXVIM the one that became infamous after that actress from Smallville was found to be involved? Or am I thinking of another weird cult?
