Netherlands: 2021 election dates

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2020/1...spread-voting/

elections over three days to spread voting 15, 16, 17 of March

A spokesman for the minister also said ‘a series of measures will be taken to prevent the elections from being derailed by coronavirus’, the paper said. One of these measures – allowing people to take charge of three rather than two proxy votes – is already part of the six-month temporary election legislation which will be voted on by the Senate next Tuesday.

Other measures included in the legislation include boosting staff numbers at polling stations and stringent hygiene guidelines to avoid contagion. Some €30m has already been set aside for the purpose.

One of the difficulties faced by the cabinet is that many elderly people usually volunteer to man the polling stations and this is now not being recommended. A campaign to attract more volunteers will be launched in December.

An added difficulty is that proxy voting is not fraud proof while postal voting is not seen as a safe way of voting either, the Volkskrant said, citing a 2018 survey among voters.

No, his might be second but might not go into parliament since winning party ultimately decides who to go into coalition with

and favourite to remain PM Rutte had said he does not want a coalition with Wilders, he's too far right extreme, but he does make some valid points he did give in last night

yesterday we had start of the coalition formation, first VVD's Rutte and D66's Kaag were asked who they would like to form a coalition with

likely to be VVD, D66 and christian democrats (CDA since they still get Rutte's preference despite their loss of seats this election)

the fourth party still not sure yet

ChristenUnie, may not agree with D66 on medical and ethical issues

Labour (PVDA) Ploumen said she doesn't want to be only left wing party in the coalition

Far Right FvD leader Baudet said he is gonna welcome any coalition talks with open arms, we are the biggest winner this election, and the biggest winner can take the initiative, so it will be exciting, what he said

Annemarie Jorritsma, Khadija Arib, Kasja Ollengren will return back to parliament end of the month when the new parliament is due to be sworn in

coalition drama part 900, never ending chaos continues

Quote:

Now that the four parties in the current coalition have agreed to hold more concrete talks on continuing in office, work can begin on drawing up policies for the coming 3.5 years.

Chief negotiator Johan Remkes has called on the four to put together a short coalition agreement as quickly as possible and not to close their eyes to appointing ministers from other parties as well.

In addition, he said, the small Christian party ChristenUnie had agreed not to block any initiatives from MPs which relate to medical ethical issues. ‘It would be mad if agreements were made which would limit the power of parliament,’ he said. ‘That would be going back to the old political ways.’

There is wide support for political culture renewal within the four parties, he said, adding that he was concerned by the current destructive way of doing business in The Hague. ‘This has to stop,’ Remkes said.

The breakthrough in the formation process came last weekend, when D66 leader Sigrid Kaag said she would be prepared to include ChristenUnie in the talks after all. The two parties are diametrically opposed on issues such as euthanasia and assisted dying.

The next cabinet, she said on Thursday after a deal was reached on a restart, should be ‘more progressive, open, generous and human’.

VVD leader Mark Rutte, who is poised to lead his fourth cabinet, has also committed to a new approach. The next cabinet will be a ‘new start’ with a new culture and programme, he told reporters.

In particular, the new coalition will have to form alliances with opposition parties in order to get controversial issues through the upper house. The four parties have a small majority in the lower house, but are six seats short in the 75-seat senate

Trust

The NRC said in an editorial that the next cabinet will have its work cut out to win back the trust of voters after six months of ‘shadow dancing’.

‘Major crises such as the climate and housing market have not led to significant strategy choices, even though some money was freed up in the budget,’ the paper said. Other issues such as the childcare benefit scandal, the paper said, are still not resolved.

‘The parties should have realised,’ the paper said, ‘that trust can only be regained by action.’

Nicky91 06-10-2021 01:02 PM

new parliament talks can finally really begin

according to informers Koolmees, Remkes the next phase in coalition talks is a experiment

VVD, D66, CDA, CU are the 4 parties in this new parliament but they must come to agreements now over a new politics culture

the informers also want some input by PVDA (Labour) and GroenLinks although these two parties aren't feeling much for the idea to share their ideas with the opposition

there'll be no deadline by the informers since they don't know when all this is ready
