Harrowing video shows woman foiling child abduction attempt in London

Two women have rescued a child from an attempted kidnapping on the streets of London after the man, who has since been arrested for alleged rape, was spotted behaving suspiciously with a young girl in tow.

Video taken by one of the women has gone viral on social media, the harrowing footage capturing their pursuit of the alleged paedophile.

The woman can be heard confronting the offender, who is seen standing in a shadowy corner of an alleyway with the child.

"Let her go, what are you doing with her?" she confronts him. "Is that the same one that just walked past us, mum?"

The man protests, saying the girl is his little sister.

"So what are you doing in the corner with her?" the woman persists, following him out of the alleyway.

The footage shows the man, dressed in a grey sweatshirt with the hood up, guiding the child away with his arm around her shoulders. The woman calls out to her, asking if she's okay.

When the woman catches up, the man briefly confronts her - before quickly scarpering.

"Are you okay? Do you know him?" she asks the young girl, who - clearly distraught - cries that she was "just trying to go to school".

A social media post from a relative, shared to a forum on Reddit, said their younger sister had initially spotted the man with his hands over the young girl's mouth.

"At 7:05am this morning, my little sister witnessed a man abducting a young girl whilst on her way to school. She noticed the man had his hands over her mouth whilst walking down Pitcairn Road (Mitcham) and was behaving in a strange manner," the person wrote, according to the screenshot.

"She called and alerted my mum and sister, who called the police and left our house to attempt to find him. When they found him at North Place... he had put his coat on her and made her perform sexual acts on him."

London's Metropolitan Police has since confirmed the man, identified as 26-year-old Kadian Nelson, has been arrested.

"Police have this evening arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of rape... following a call from a member of the public," said the statement. "He is now in police custody.

"The victim and her family have been informed. They continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

"Officers from the South West Command Unit have been conducting extensive enquiries today to locate the man after an allegation of rape was received shortly after [7am] to the North Place area on Tuesday, 3 November."

Comments on the footage, uploaded to Reddit, claim a number of locals had gathered outside Nelson's home after members of the community recognised him from the woman's video.

"People found out his address and many turned up looking for him, surprisingly most who went seemed to be affiliated with gangs," one commented.

"Some guys showed up at his address. There are some rumours that he's been shot and some others saying he's been arrested," said another.

Video posted to Twitter appears to show men gathered outside the man's address, with one user tweeting: "[There were] about 20 to 30 people that went to his place in Mitcham, literally a scumbag". The claims allege that police were already present and that rival gangs had "put aside their differences" to confront the alleged paedophile.

In the statement, the Met Police warned the public to "be mindful" of sharing information via social media that could affect any potential future proceedings, or identify the alleged victim.

Yeah the headline says they saved her from abduction which they did but it looks like he'd already abused her

My daughter is just hitting the age (starting high school next year) when she pretty much has to be out and about further from home on her own and I find stories like this straight-up terrifying.

Where we live is worlds apart from an inner-city area and things like this are pretty much unheard of, but obviously it's never impossible.

I sometimes remember myself in my early 20's and am filled with dread at the thought of her getting to that age. I ****ed off to France to live in my then-new-girlfriend-now-wife's tiny student accomodation with her when I was 22... without telling anyone... for 6 weeks. My dad phoned after about a month wondering where I was and I was like "Dunno somewhere in France lol". :omgno:

...this is horrendous ...it says abduction attempt but the child was raped...?...it’s a bit strange that it doesn’t appear to be a story that’s being carried in much of the main media atm...or at least slow in being carried.../...more local news, type thing...and obviously social media....with some posts removed from there as well...and obvious screams of why isn’t this getting media news...

Ammi 04-11-2020 11:07 AM

...I’m sure that it’s just me, something feels a bit off with it, possibly...but...

Yeah I was surprised that there wasn't already a thread on it, I only saw it because I have a friend on FB who lives in that area and posted about it

There are inconsistencies, e.g. it says when they found her she was being forced to perform a sex act (most likely touching), not that she was raped, but then it says he was arrested "for rape" when it would be sexual assault and maybe attempted abduction. All of it horrific of course but I'm more pointing out the internal contradictions in the reporting.

Not sure if this link will work but it's security camera footage of her being grabbed by him

...I caught the real tail end of it last night on the radio...I mean literally a few words...which is when it said that she was raped and that the police were asking for ‘calm’ and for people to not act on emotions etc with this 26yr old person...I think it might have been a local radio...anyway, I thought this would be a big news thing today but it’s obviously not....but it’s also that a big thing seems to be made that it’s not in social media...and also that it appears that this person seems to be known ...there was a vid taken down earlier, which made me think that his home was being videoed by a ‘public group of people’..and some really awful abuse stuff...and yet the police are saying they want to question him, so they don’t know where he lives/who he is, then..?...and yet that seems to contradict ...and how was it known from the off that he was a 26yr old man unless it was known who he was specifically or the police had given that information out....?...

Ammi 04-11-2020 11:19 AM

...I watch too much mystery stuff, I know...

The Slim Reaper 04-11-2020 11:23 AM

This was all over twitter yesterday, including the community working out who it was and where he could be. I think the election just sort of took over the news.

Ammi 04-11-2020 11:28 AM

...but if it’s known who he is, the police wouldn’t be appealing for information of his identity for questioning...it sounds conflicted...

Ammi 04-11-2020 11:29 AM

...and yeah, that’s the whole odd thing...it’s all over social media but so slow in hitting main news...

Amy Jade 04-11-2020 11:35 AM

Thank god they were brave enough to confront him.

Uuuugh hearing that poor kid's voice just sent shivers down my spine. Hope his prison-mates treat him like ****.

Yes well done that Lady stopping the Rape

Zizu 04-11-2020 12:10 PM

Sorry but these people need to be taken off the streets and locked away for good .

I don’t want to hear their sob stories and then learn they’re back on the streets reoffending !!

We should put the safety of all children and indeed everyone else above the civil rights of these damaged individuals
