Fireworks and animals

anyone have a pet that's scared tonight?

My dog doesn't care but my horse is so scared of them, why do they have to be so bloody loud?

Vanessa 05-11-2020 05:01 PM

I can hear them outside. From the park near my house D:

Black Dagger 05-11-2020 05:02 PM

My dog never seemed to care until the past couple of years. Now he barks away at every one.

Dogeatdog 05-11-2020 05:03 PM

My pets aren’t to bothered by them but I feel more sorry for animals like horses (as you mentioned Amy) and others that are kept outside. It must be very distressing for them.

They are getting louder ....by design it seems ..

Also the crazily loud ones may actually be ones that have been ‘doctored’ ..

Yeah, I think some people sedate their horses at the farm we keep ours at. Mine is actually one of the better ones she freaks out at first then chills pretty quick but it's horrible seeing it all the same

Its a time of year I always dread for animals because some of them become very anxious when the fireworks go off and it isn’t nice to see at all. My friends dog hated fireworks and would jump in your lap when he heard a loud bang ): I hope that your horse doesn’t become to stressed tonight Amy .

LeatherTrumpet 05-11-2020 05:32 PM

the TL has taken her boy dog (who has no nose) away to her dads just there he was outside doing a pee and the neighbours 2 down let of a succession of banging rockets - he was a quivering mess.

He will deffo wake up whailing tonight with a bad dream, really frightened him something awful

Cal. 05-11-2020 05:33 PM

My dogs don’t really care but one of them will bark at the really loud ones.

My chickens seem fine too.

But yeah it’s horrible for the animals who hate them :(

...awwww yeah, I know that for some horses, sedation has to be done, it’s so sad and wrong that they should have to go through that because any sedation would surely carry a risk, by its nature...I hope that your horse is okay, Amy......

I think its worse this year because of the restrictions. I, and most of my neighbours, usually go to the council organised display at the local park but as everything is cancelled most people in my street are doing their own in the garden and its been going on for hours. My son got bored of watching them even though we are way closer than we would be in the park and he was less than impressed at the sparklers i tried to pass of on him....apparently at 10, sparklers are lame man

LaLaLand 05-11-2020 08:44 PM

My dog is 10 next week and I genuinely thought she was going to have a heart attack earlier, absolutely hysterical.

Quietened down a bit now thankfully but there’s still the odd banger going off. As long as they’re few and far between we’ll be good. It was relentless an hour or two ago.

LaLaLand 05-11-2020 08:44 PM

Because there’s no displays allowed almost everyone with children have bought their own fireworks - the queue outside of the shop where I live that sells them was so long earlier today!

...poor little Ollie......hopefully a today a new day, a new dog and he’s feeling good etc...(...well not a new dog, but you know...)...I hope he’s recovered from the trauma, it really does feel like a public abuse, putting animals through the terror...

My rabbit was frightened by the wind the other night coming down the chimney.

He was stamping his feet and grunting.

This was at three in the morning,

Nicky91 06-11-2020 10:50 AM

yes my dog doesn't like them either, starts barking all the time, and shaking :(

Strictly Jake 06-11-2020 12:34 PM

Havent been able to check on my rabbits yet due to being at work from 6 this morning. But they live in the back garden. New people have moved into the house thats at the back of our back garden and were setting fireworks off. Annoyingly we had just put the kids to bed too. Suprised they didnt wake up as it was really loud. So hope the rabbits coped alright. I have a feeling fireworks will be even worse tonight with it being a friday

When we had rabbits we brought them in on bonfire night and when the weather was really harsh, I hope your buns coped with it all Jake ,such a shame for the animals what they have to go through for humans pleasure.

I never call for anything to be banned, im anti censorship for anything, but fireworks can f right off!

Elliot 06-11-2020 11:00 PM

It’s just obnoxious and cruel at this point

Toy Soldier 08-11-2020 01:28 AM

It was doggos first fireworks night this year, I predicted she would not be arsed and she was not arsed. Looked a bit intrigued at the window. She's too dumb to be scared of anything.
