Johnny Depp resigns from Fantastic Beasts films at Warner Bros.' request...

Johnny Depp has resigned from the Fantastic Beasts films the request of Warner Bros, the studio which produces the Harry Potter spin-off series.

The actor announced the news on his official Instagram page in the wake of his failed libel case against The Sun newspaper which labelled him a ‘wife beater’.

The 57-year-old Edward Scissorhands star played dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and was expected to return for the third film, which is in production now.

Warner Bros. will recast the role of Grindelwald, it has announced.

“Firstly I’d like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty.

“I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days.

“Secondly, I wish to let you know that i have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected that and agreed to that request.

“Finally I wish to say this.

“The surreal judgement of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal.

“My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.

“Thank you for reading.

“Sincerely Johnny Depp.”

If Amber Heard is not dropped from the Aquaman franchise it makes a mockery of the MeToo and Time's Up movements.

He should sue her for ruining his career, his life, and almost certainly his mental health.

tbh, didn't Robert Downey Jr also go through some bad times, and then climbing back up again with his career?

Given that the DC movies are also WB I would be inclined to agree; if it was different companies you could argue different ideologies but with it being the same one, it would be massive hypocrisy.

That's if it was a WB exec decision though, if it was at the request of the director then . It's their decision at the end of the day.

I thought his career would be fine because he’s a man?

Nothing to do with violence or domestic abuse or anything like that, it was addiction issues (alcohol and a LOT of different drugs including heroin). He did jail time but I think it was for drug possession, a few DUI's (driving while on drugs) and I believe trespassing because he went into a neighbour's house (again, high) and fell asleep :umm2:.

That said, Sean Connery got plenty of respect in his thread when he died and he quite openly talked about hitting/slapping his wife "when she needed it".

****ing farce.

Terfy Rowling and her ****e spin off can flop.

Haven't they already filmed the next film? I don't see a recast happening so JK is gonna have to make up the Grindlewald dies and then gets resurrected 50 years later?

Or maybe the lovely JK can write a magical reason his appearance changed? Grindles spent most of the other film in disguise, remember!

While I know Voldemort ended up looking like a monster mostly due to the Horcruxes gradually degrading his appearance, maybe long term exposure to other types of Dark Magic could make G look different.

He specifically says his resignation was at the request of WB.

...surely this just continues the layers of complications with this ...because the ruling by the judge against Johnny Depp has effectively been...’no, the Sun didn’t print an untruth when it labelled as a ‘wife beater’...then Warner Brothers are making a decision to distance themselves from ‘that label’ that is being said not to be inaccurate....but if they did request the resignation of Amber Heard in the same way when no legal ruling has been made because the Sun never referred to her as a ‘husband beater’.../...there was no equivalent court case etc...then just by the request alone, she could possibly take legal action against Warner Bros...?..this is just so terribly complicated and layered...

Cancel Fantastic Beasts entirely then

no one can be better than Johnny :(

Tom4784 07-11-2020 01:03 PM

Amber Heard must be dropped from Aquaman as well, otherwise it's a complete mockery of abuse victims across the world. She is an abuser, she profited from making out that someone else's rape story was her own.

If Johnny Depp's career is ****ed, it's only balance that hers' is as well.

arista 07-11-2020 01:18 PM

I posted this on his thread
does a need a thread of it own?
