Scottish Man Driver,78 who 'fell asleep' jailed for causing death

[A pensioner who caused the death
of a woman after "falling asleep" has
been jailed for a year.
Colin Brown, 78, was in a van towing a
caravan on the A66 which veered onto
the opposite side of the road, crashing into an oncoming vehicle.

Ann Copley, 76, from Carlisle, died
in the collision, near to the Llama Karma Kafe,
east of Penrith, in August 2018.

Brown, of Upper Street, Layham, near Ipswich,
admitted to causing death by dangerous driving.
Carlisle Crown Court heard he was travelling
from his home in Suffolk to the Lakes
with his wife and had taken three breaks
during a seven-hour journey.

As Brown's wife slept, the van drifted
for 150 metres in around six seconds
across the road into the path of
car being driven by Mrs Copley.

The court heard it gave her
"absolutely no chance" to react.]

Good he is Jailed

Well I'm personally very glad for you mistake as I'm sure we wouldn't have gotten the extra info of him being a man driver in the title otherwise :hee:

I know that older people enjoy driving (probably for independence more than anything else), but I feel it needs to be regulated more

Yes Driving while Asleep
is typical of real old folks

....very, very sad...for the loss of her life obviously and the devastation of her family, just terrible sad ...

...and he now has that to live with for the rest of his life... "He will never drive again."...after he’s served his sentence and his 3 yr driving ban, that’s obviously the decision he’s made....that he’ll never drive again...

like that fella's wife was doing.

plenty "old folks" drive with no issues, and plenty "young folks" cause serious accidents and death. The truth is in the size of insurance premiums

Ammi 13-11-2020 03:33 PM

...driving long distances, from Suffolk to the Lakes for instance...which is a huge journey, should ideally have driving breaks for safety, regardless of age...
