LGBT Anti-Bullying Scheme axed by Tories

Quote:

Government-backed projects tackling bullying of LGBT students in England's schools have had their funding pulled, the BBC has learned.

The decision came despite an earlier pledge to continue investing in school programmes targeting homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.

Ministers admit that those identifying as LGBT face a higher risk of bullying which can cause long-term harm.

The Government Equalities Office had funded several well-received programmes costing at least £4m, which specifically targeted LGBT bullying, since 2014. Many had been extended and given further government support.

Initially called The Homophobic, Biphobic and Transphobic Challenge Fund, the government programme was not compulsory for schools, but it allowed teachers, staff and students to receive free training and workshops.

Providers of workshops, as well as parents, students and teachers, had been expecting the funding to continue.

The government acknowledges the serious impact anti-LGBT bullying can have on educational attainment, absence levels, emotional wellbeing and mental health.
Not enough money for this but they can pull £16billion out of their arse for the military?

And all those millions lining their friends' pockets with trumped up contracts.

Tory *****.

Money is tight, they are in a pandemic

Important things have to wait, they cannot fund everything, and need money

£4 million is absolute ****ing pennies.

Before anyone says "But it is millions it is teh lot of monies!!"

For actual scale;

£4 million is less than 0.01% of the education budget.

Wrong, just plain wrong.
Shows their warped thinking.

Not even shocked at this despicable government anymore. If it doesn’t somehow benefit them, they’re not interested.

“There’s no money at the moment”

Is this any surprise from an administration hellbent on stirring up culture wars and covering up bullying from a government minister

My honest opinion is that part of the curriculum should include in-depth studies and education on the issues that need addressing.

Sexism
Racism
Suicide
Bullying
Accepting others sexuality and beliefs.

I don't know what the money is for? Once a learning tool or module has been made can't that just be rolled out as a one off thing to be taught as part of any lesson focusing on health and wellbeing.
I do feel it is an important issue that many kids face but so are lots of other things children suffering bullying for many other reasons; poverty, racism, obesity, disability either there is targeted support for all these issues or none.

It begs the question for me why does this need a grant to tackle it? Personally I would reach out to the community for help here, there is a wealth of information and support from various organisations that would be more than willing to help.

Psychotic war mongering goverment. Can we vote these pigs out?

....this funding ended in March it would seem...I’m not really sure how individual schools could fund out of their own budgets when their budgets are stripped back so much in every area, that’s shamefully avoiding a government responsibility...this government have made it so sadly obvious that ‘children are not the future’ for them in so many different ways...so many times we hear...’teachers are not trained to be, their focus needs to be teaching for our children...’...and etc...and there was the help and support needed to be able to help and support bullied children and the government said no...you’re not a priority for us...?..but our weaponry is...let’s make Britain great again...

If money is so tight then why don't these Politicians lower their own wages so that extra funding can actually go to more important things such as this?

Plus the Government pisses money up a wall anyway.
