Grammy Nominations revealed (awards postponed)

Obviously there are about 200+ categories so I'll just list the big ones and some others that TiBBers might care about... but there's a complete absence of The Weeknd (despite his success, and it being a great album/singles), Rina Sawayama (I guess she's neither British nor international, now), Jessie Ware (outsider shot but still lavished with praise), Grimes :(, Tame Impala, and the likes of Phoebe Bridgers and Fiona Apple are relegated to small categories.

Beyonce continues to get the most praise for the least work (does ANYONE remember Black Parade?), Justin Bieber is laughably nominated for top accolades with comfortably the worst album of the year, and we're left with a very exciting battle between Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Coldplay?!

I heard that The Weekend was made to choose between the Grammys and The Superbowl, and supposedly choosing the latter really annoyed the heads at the Grammys. And I believe Phoebe and Fiona being in smaller categories will be what their label has put them forward for rather than just what they’ve ended up in.

But everything you’ve said here I completely agree with :clap1:

Mystic Mock 25-11-2020 08:11 AM

Yummy being nominated for something positive.:laugh3:

Kizzy 25-11-2020 08:36 AM

I knew they were going to snub him from the pop album categories in favour for more Pop orientated work, but I did not see THIS. The Box is literally the only track in the same weight class as Blinding lights for this year out of those nominations.

**** it anyway. I guess they sent their message and got their publicity. Taylor can have her easy win and redemption story.

Ross. 25-11-2020 10:42 AM

Queen Dua Lipa has LEVITATED :clap1:

Nick. 25-11-2020 10:51 AM

Just wanted to add the categories for Spoken Word/Comedy as they often weirdly my favourite and have led to Grammy winners Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton & Jimmy Carter

Best Spoken Word Album (Includes Poetry, Audio Books & Storytelling)

Acid for the Children – A Memoir – Flea
Alex Trebek – The Answer Is... – Ken Jennings
Catch and Kill – Ronan Farrow
Blowout: Corrupted Democracy, Rogue State Russia, and the Richest, Most Destructive Industry on Earth – Rachel Maddow
Charlotte's Web (E.B. White) – Meryl Streep and Full Cast

Best Comedy Album

Black Mitzvah – Tiffany Haddish
I Love Everything – Patton Oswalt
The Pale Tourist – Jim Gaffigan
Paper Tiger – Bill Burr
23 Hours to Kill – Jerry Seinfeld

Who even knew Coldplay released an album this year, guess it's Taylor's to lose

Smithy 25-11-2020 10:55 AM

Beyoncé getting all those noms is a scream :skull: can anyone even remember how Black Parade goes?

DouglasS 25-11-2020 10:55 AM

Where’s Chromosome?

Denver 25-11-2020 11:11 AM

Where is Tate McRae?

Jordan. 25-11-2020 11:12 AM

Yummy getting a nomination invalidates the entire thing

Elliot 25-11-2020 11:25 AM

Happy for Dua lipa, Megan thee stallion and Chloe x halle. The weekend and Rina Sawayama were snubbed hard.

Justin was complaining on Instagram that he was nominated in the pop category instead of rnb with an incredibly pretentious and ungrateful post. Revoke his noms honestly

Mitchell 25-11-2020 12:37 PM

Meryl is coming

Oh, did it or it’s songs not make any the big categories (album, song, record)?

Rain on Me got a nomination for best pop duo/group

up against BTS dynamite (BTS should've also gotten best song nomination with that tbh)

Pop Smoke and Lil Baby were robbed too. The numbers those three guys had this year were crazy.

Quote:

The 2021 Grammy Awards have been postponed from the originally scheduled date of January 31, Rolling Stone, Variety, and The New York Times report. The Recording Academy has yet to announce the new date, but sources speaking to RS said that the organizers are aiming to hold the ceremony in March. The reported postponement is due to COVID-19 concerns.

Smithy 05-01-2021 07:29 PM

Nnn perched for the zoom grammys

I wonder what’s gonna happen with the oscars, there haven’t even been any films released the last 10 months
