Niamh. 09-12-2020 09:44 AM

Is there a video of the actual incident because this one here is saying he actually called him the n word?

Nicky91 09-12-2020 09:51 AM

Ammi 09-12-2020 09:53 AM

...so far as I know, he was referred to as ‘the black one over there’...’black’ translates to ‘negru’ in Romanian...so he would have used that word...

Crimson Dynamo 09-12-2020 09:54 AM

the n word that sounds like digger is not the n word its Romanian for black negru

Right OK, you would think a Champions league official like that would know better though, especially in the climate we're in at the moment

sounds like in the heat of the moment he did not know the players name and distinguished him from the white player and perhaps a player mistook negru for well you know what...

Wouldn't it be the standard thing though for an official to use the players number? They're printed pretty largely on their jerseys

You do realise that word is a Romanian word for a racist slur?

If he can't read the gigantic numbers, he probably shouldn't be a linesman

Why?

Personally, I think this was inevitable. It was just a matter of time before the players left the pitch forcing the game to be abandoned. After England's game in Bulgaria last year there was always going to be more incidents.

he is pitchside and if you have watched football from a touchline and their is a melee its difficult, the ref wanted an immediate response if that player is behind 3 players he cant see it.

To say that a young, pro linesman in a champions league game is a racist and is prepared to be racist is ridiculous imo

I feel sorry for him - poor guy must feel awful

So without knowing much you're sure he didn't mean it?

Also showing red cards for people complaining about racism is racist in its self's

I have watched plenty of games from the sidelines, in fact those games I watched were school boys leagues with my son so not professional games and even then I've never heard any of the referee's refer to any of the players by their skin colour. I haven't made any claims on whether I think the linesman is racist or not but what I have said is, as a professional in his game he should know better than to refer to players by the colour of their skin. Especially right now when racist issues in football is being addressed a lot.

Absolutely right. Officials have to be more professional. They cant say 'The Chinese player' surely we can all see why that's not acceptable.
