Vinyl

How come vinyl is making a comeback?

I noticed in HMV that they now are selling a huge collection of vinyl records.

When did this vinyl comeback happen and why?

I'm gutted. I used to have all my Dad's vinyl collection, but I gave them away about 5 or 10 years ago.

I started collecting three years ago. My attitude is I want to pay for music, so why not get the coolest aesthetic return for my bucks. The audiophile aspect is subjective of course - especially with anything produced in the last few decade - but to my ears anything from the 60s to 90s sounds far better. It's got its own atmosphere, vinyl sound. Not just old classic rock records either. I have all the Warp records stuff from the 90s, a lot of big beat, trip hop, ambient etc and the spatial dynamics and low end are all the bomb diggity on vinyl.

It's weird to think most people my age's general reference for music listening is those Apple air buds or laptop speakers. It's a tinny wall of sound, but the pop music has for years now been produced with that in mind.

To each their own and all that. But listening to albums is a hobby for me. When I do it I'm sitting down doing nothing else. Vinyl is bestest for that.

My childhood was listening to vinyls of Motown and Rock n Roll.

Great days!

I worked in HMV until a couple months ago and we sold more vinyl than CD's. They're huge now.

I've still got my Rega turntable. Its in decent condition, I never use it anymore so I wonder if it would fetch a few quid.

When Cd's came out i sold my vinyl and was very happy to. I didnt find the clicking and popping quirky, just irritating. Then when streaming came along I sold all my CD's too.

A good friend has gone the other way and recenlty bought himself a retro Hi-FI system so looks like there is some money in this

Just dusted of my old turntable, plugged it in and its still works. Off to the pawn shop tomorrow.

I'm relatively new to vinyl after getting a record player for my birthday a few years ago. I sold all of my CDs and am solely records now.

I love it, love how big the artwork is on them and ALSO love when you get old records that have that little crackle and distortion in the sound sometimes. Adds to the whole vibe.

It is pricey sometimes but it just means I don't buy albums for the sake of it like I used to growing up with CDs. Only buy the faves!
