13 Celtic players forced into self-isolation after trip to Dubai

Thirteen Celtic players and three members of their management staff have been told to self-isolate after returning from Dubai.

The Parkhead club returned from a warm-weather training camp on Friday and one player tested positive over the weekend.

And now Celtic have confirmed that a further 13 players will miss Monday night's game against Hibs at Celtic Park after health chiefs stepped in.

Neil Lennon and John Kennedy will also miss the match, having been deemed close contacts.

The controversial trip to Dubai has led to widespread criticism of the club and Lennon's men now face play an understrength side against Hibs on Monday

The game was plunged into doubt by the self-isolation rules but tonight's Premiership clash will go ahead.

absolutely mind boggling decision for them to go over there in the first place put for them to take an injured player with them (Julien who was the positive case) is just crazy

There's been a lot of cases in football in general, they're probably going to have to pause the leagues again for a while imo

Seems kind of unfair though to have shops, bars, restaurants all shut but allow football to keep going where they blatantly disregard all the rules we all have to follow

Nicky91 11-01-2021 01:33 PM

why go to dubai then? :conf:

it Beggars belief

Cherie 11-01-2021 02:03 PM

Ridiculous, this was non essential travel, they should be fined

bitontheslide 11-01-2021 02:35 PM

completely ridiculous. Celtic should be fined for that

LeatherTrumpet 11-01-2021 02:57 PM

the player who caught the virus has not played for 4 months as he is injured yet he still went to Dubai?

Alf 11-01-2021 04:31 PM

What did they go there for in the first place? They'd have had a much better time in Finport.

Cant believe I lost 20 quid on tonight's game..I had a tenner each on rod Stewart and billy Connelly to score first.

Novo 11-01-2021 09:09 PM

Duffy played tonight but he left the bubble early and went home from dubai away from the rest of the team, strange stuff

Celtic manager Neil Lennon says the Scottish government's decision to tell 13 of their players to self-isolate after their trip to Dubai was motivated by politics and not public health.

Lennon and 13 players missed two games after a positive Covid-19 test and now a further player has tested positive.

Celtic drew both of their matches while depleted and are 21 points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers.

"We've come back and been absolutely decimated by these rules," Lennon said.

What now for Celtic and Lennon?
"I'm not convinced they're a public health issue. [It] seems political in my opinion.

"There seems to be some sort of agenda being driven here. I am not getting into a fight with the government but I will just leave it out there."

Lennon said the club was led to believe they only had to be 2m apart on their chartered flight, but after consultation with the health authorities following the first positive test, were informed anyone sitting within two rows of seats of the positive case must isolate.

The Scottish government declined to comment.

What would the SNP have against Celtic on a personal level?

I'm trying to see Lennon's point here, but it doesn't really make a lick of sense.
