has not confirmed if he will carry it on?
He just said today he "will keep it under review"


Trouble is its non binding vote they Won today,
278 voted for it to carry on
including some Conservatives around 8.

Even if we assume that the extra £20 is fair game to only be given during the pandemic, ending it as early as April is stupid, no way will things be significantly better by then.

Why would we reward slobs who have had a year to sort their lives out but continue to wallow in their own self pity?

Hopefully the payments will carry on until we are out of this covid mess.
I believe it will cost the taxpayer around £170 each to pay for it, can’t see many begrudging it.

Johnson and his Ministers will come late to the party again.

HOWEVER playing games with people's lives and livelihoods, especially at the lower end of the scale is a favourite pastime of this government.

Imagine begrudging those on the lowest incomes a measly £20 extra a week.

I don’t know with this one, they are getting 80 pounds a month extra what about the workers who only got 80 percent of their wages but still had to pay full price rents and bills

If it gets given out you can bet more will be taken back from the workers.

Most people on Universal Credit are in low-income work, and there has been no indication at all of a tax rate hike for those on low, average or even above-average incomes.

Taken back? It's all coming from the big fat pot, and there are bigger wastes of money than giving people a poxy £20 a week...

I know there are many big fishes taking the p1ss but it’s the average working person who will ultimately pay for the hand outs.

...it was looked at to be changed to a ‘lump’ payment of £500, so effectively halved...?...I presume that’s been voted against, which is good...one of the things that I’ve noticed is that there are very few reductions and offers in supermarkets in comparison to pre COVID...I guess there isn’t the competing in price wars the same way...so economical shopping for low incomes will be much more difficult ....

I’m sure a lot of them would prefer to be earning a wage that will actually feed them. The tit for tat over £80 is embarrassing.

So is Rishi going to give the Extension of the £20 a week again
in his march statement?

Putting taxes up in the middle of a pandemic is political suicide, the average earning person will be paying for these so called hand outs for many years to come.

It may be embarrassing but it is an extra payment to those on universal credit those that are still on the old system of income support based benefits are not getting the extra money

Any government gives with one hand and takes backs with the other.

Life is not fair
Work all your life and pax tax on every penny, win millions on the lottery and pay nothing.

The fact that some on here are calling those on universal credit slobs who are claiming benefits but can work...clearly have no clue what UNIVERSAL credit is!

It isnt just a job seekers allowance!

It is for those on lower income, those who need help with housing costs and child tax etc

I get universal credit and Im not going to be accused of being lazy when i work from 6 in the morning til 4 in the afternoon! The reason we are entitled is because we have 3 kids and my wife is a full time mum who cant work at the moment due to our youngest only being 10 months. When he is 2 she is to return to work and probably our universal credit will stop

Im not bothered if they put it up or not as its a reasonable amount anyway. As long as they dont make cuts and deductions

I get universal credit and I work.
It's life saver, because it means I can afford to rent my own place.
Flats here in London are so expensive.

Unfortunately there are many people that abuse the benefits system alongside genuine people.

He will I think, or it will be announced sooner or leaked out that it will be.

They'll likely again just be wanting to put a bit of time between Starmer's calling a vote on it.
Then actually saying they intend to.

Rather than ease the anxiety of those needing this assistance at this time now.
Preferring to look as if they've listened more generally while knowing it is the right thing to do now.

Playing games with people's concerns, lives and livelihoods.

However, if they do extend it and I believe they will.
Those games will be swept away by those lauding them for listening and changing their minds.

They must have loads of wax in their ears, that they hear but don't listen really until there's shouting about the wrongs they're doing.

The tories and their supporters will do just that.

I live in an area where people benefit from the free school meals schemes and the amount of people I see that share memes of fat children with speech bubbles thanking Marcus Rashford to demonise people who use these schemes is just gross.

The Tories will fight against every benefit for those who need it and their supporters will cheer them on because it's a ****ing cult and they love to see people they consider lesser suffer, even if they shoot themselves in the foot in the process.

No doubt this will be just as memed by tory supporters.

This is the problem. Not you smudgie, because I know you're only thinking of helping those that need it, but we have a government with a less than interested approach to collecting billions in tax, whereas good people don't see that as a problem and are happy to help out when needed.

What we really need is to sort out taxation and corruption. Rishi has already said he won't introduce a one off wealth tax to pay for the pandemic, it will be done through more cuts and those trying to make their way through life, whilst folks like rees-mogg hide their money offshore.

The irony is that LOADS of the "new" Tory voter base gets some in-work benefits, things like the "help with childcare" element of UC actually extend well into the middle-income range, but they don't think of it that way. "People On Benefits" = the unemployed / "the dole" and they can't get their head around the fact that it's not just the unemployed that the Tories want to shaft, it's anyone with a household income under 6 figures.
